Seen it many times he is an excellent documentary maker. The first episode about the causes of the Civil War still resonate today. It's too simplistic to say its about slavery.

History is written by the victors so the narrative is that the war is about slavery. If the south had won the narrative would have been States rights versus the Federal government. An argument still going on today.

Excellent but cant recall if it debunks the thinking that Lincoln was the great emancipator of the slaves.

His principle objection was the economic advantage gained by slavery and consequent market distortion.

I'm more obsessed by Ken Burns who is a brilliant documentary maker. though I am interested in the Amercan Civil War as the outcome changed the world . Sadly Civil Wars are a very brutal affair.
