Caleb Kporha

From what I've seen of him in the First Team - he's got a lot to learn before getting anywhere close to competing for a starting role.

So what can he do ? Become a regular bench warmer getting a few minutes here and there ? Continue playing for the U21's ? Neither options offer much in the way of career development.

A season on loan would be an option. It would give all concerned a better insight into his potential.

But if he gets what he considers to be a better opportunity at one of the myriad of European clubs lining up to sign him, then goodbye and good luck.

I think this is a realistic assessment, but if he's the most likely of the youngsters to make the breakthrough could we be doing more to keep him e.g a new improved contract and an arranged loan to gain experience?
He's apparently highly rated by the coaching staff and is viewed as having excellent potential.
If he's made his mind up then fair enough, but if a potential first teamer emerges from the youth setup surely him leaving should be a last resort.

According to the article he wants to leave because he wants fast tracking into First Team football.

You've said it yourself, '' potential ''. That's all it is at the moment. He's not going to get a bumper contract at Palace for that although an improvement on his current deal should be possible.

I would guess that the loan option has at least been discussed. And I think it's the way forward for him. Look at it this way, a year at another club would be a year further into Munoz's contract. Things could look differently for Kporha then.

But if as you say he's made his mind up then while it's disappointing to see an Academy player with potential leave the club, he isn't the first and he won't be the last.

He and his agent will make more money now over a loan deal if he goes to another club on the Continent.

Out of interest, what has he got to learn?
I only remember him coming on for the odd five mins here and there, 30mins vs Donny where he looked ok.. so I haven't seen him much
Genuinely interested, as I thought he was closer that that. or do you mean he's no where near Munoz.. or even Clyne ?

He looked good in the Marbella match - was one of the better performers, maybe even the best. But that was poor opposition.
He started a cup match and looked average enough - and was subbed. He's played as a sub a few times. For a youngster, I thought he'd be quicker, although he looked ok in Marbella.
As others say, I'd prefer Imray anyway (presuming he stays). We're also linked with a right back on a free (from Turkey? I think). However, I'd rather use him than Clyne at right back. Clyne is more back three back up these days with his lack of pace. Presumably gone at the end of the season. Looks like they both will be.

I don't think he's close to Munoz.

As for Clyne, I think he may leave at the end of the season - which potentially removes him as competition for Kporha. Also factor in Danny Imray, although I think he will go out on loan again next season but at a higher level than L2.

What has he got to learn ? He needs first team football first and foremost. He won't get that ahead of Munoz. Hence my thought that he needs to go out on loan if he wants to progress at Palace.

If that doesn't appeal to him ( or his agent ! ) then he goes...

If he joins a lower league club for first team football then I respect that decision to go for playing experience. However if he joins anther club where he is a bench warmer than I guess it's all about money.

Sometimes the breakthrough of a young player is by chance/injury e.g the use of AWB at our club and more recently Lewis Skelly at Arsenal who has even forced himself into the England reckoning.
It's up to the player to demonstrate that they should retain the shirt when the opportunity arises.
I saw Kenny Sansom's debut for us as a teenager and even at that stage he looked to be the best player on the field.
In his limited opportunities, Kphora has not similarly grabbed the eye, but that's not a criticism as Sansom was truly exceptional.
Some have observed he looks slow, but for me he looks quick going forward and the slowness relates to when players run at him and he has to defend.
