Brighton's European Dreams

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
i had figured that tonights Europa Conference final , with Chelscum, mattered to Brighton. It did figure in all the hypotheticals a week ago. Just googled it again - outcomes have changed. No matter what outcome tonight, the Seaweed will not be packing their suitcases and visiting southern climes.

And a question, did our FA cup victory help knock Brighton out of Europe ? Brighton-Brexit, Brightsh1.t Birdsh1.t.

when our troops go 'over there' we need a tune...... Relevant to any predators who fly high.

You eliminated or 'knock out' a club when they are already IN the competition, you play them, beat them, and the loss knocks them out.

You Bust a team out, like the numbers in a card-game - a bust flush. Even though you do not directly play them. Dambusters.

"we bust Brighton out of Europe
we bust Brighton out of Europe"

That just tops off a very satisfying season!

Still very salty and bitter on the North Stand Chat <insert Carry On joke here> about our FA Cup win at the moment...

Not that it impacts Brighton, but PSG beat Reims in their Cup Final so Lyon have qualified for the Europa League. I believe we are still waiting on UEFA ruling to see if the multi-club issue of Eagle Football via Textor owning a significant share of Palace and Lyon counts against us. If it goes against us, we drop to the Conference and Forest replace us in the Europa League

As I understand it, the rules are if he has a controlling interest, which he has at Lyon(90%) & only a 25% interest in Palace. He may have 45% in shares but only 25% control. It's more likely Lyon may be downgraded to the Conference League, tho knowing UEFA, nothing is cut n dried.

Let's hope they can come to a quick decision. It has been a reasonable possibility for a few weeks and it would be good for both clubs and players to know the situation pre-transfer window

i never trust French football governing bodies, especially on matters relevant to french teams. Even when they have moved to Switzerland.

sepp blatter, Michel Platini, the Thierry Henry handball. Do not be surprised if Lyon get bumped up above us. Lyon getting the Europa league and us getting the mickey mouse league.

Hope, voodoo dolls, pray for Inter to beat PSG in the CL final, thereby taking away PSG's automatic reentry into the CL, therefore requiring them to utilize the 'top of their league' spot for next year's CL, thus shifting Lyon's French league table's final position(6) into the conference league spot.

Or, am I missing something?

Unfortunately assuming there is a conflict of interests it is not the percentage control but where we both finished in our respective leagues.

As we finished 12th and Lyon 6th it will be us who get downgraded.

Don’t think it come to that though!

I had great satisfaction earlier this evening pressing home bragging rights to a Brighton fan in the pub who started the "but we qualified for Europe before you did" routine.

"But WHY did we qualify" I asked?

"Because you won the FA Cup"

"Exactly. We WON something. Now, come back to me when you lot have won something and we can talk about who's the better club. Until then, ****off".

It really is quite therapeutic.

Who could have dreamt the extent of happiness and joy, winning the FA cup has given ? 😀

They won't bump down Lyon. They outrank us. We are at risk, not them.

We are probably ok for the reasons you give, but Textor may have to transfer his Palace interest into a one year blind trust.

With the way they constantly follow us around like a lost dog, they'll probably win something next season. Knowing them - the Carabao Cup

Sure is 🧂 salty down on the south coast for more than one reason!
If carlsberg did a palace brighton season!!🤣
We beat them home and away
We won the fa cup
We qualified for Europe and they didn’t because of us

Only thing they can grasp at is that they finished higher than us in the league, but who gives a fcuk, we won the fa cup….as the song goes 😎

of all the loser-teams, who failed to get into Europe, they were the best one. Surely their best players would now like to sign for somebody else. And the best players, on the market, will not be joining Brighton....at least not for cheap.

can i suggest we rub sea-salt into their wounds by nicking a few of their better younger players ? Like we did recently to Millwall.

My point was/is, that Textor does not have a controlling interest in Palace. He does however, have one at Lyon. I think they are more at risk than we are. Just my opinion.
