Really interested to see how we set up against them in the cup. I think Guessand and McNeill were rested at the weekend for this game. We can't take them too lightly, but with our decent squad depth now I can see quite a few changes. I would go with this line-up....

Think we need to shake-up the defence (can't be any worse than yesterday) to see if there is a better combination. Thought Richards looked very slow against Fulham. Hopefully we can give some minutes to Doucoure and Gozo too.

As much as I agree to give the starters a rest, I think Disasi and Timber should play to get more minutes. Moreso for Disasi to play with Ahanor and see how they do. I don't want to see Richards anywhere near the pitch. Way too exposed without Lacroix.

Certainly would be useful to rest Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell and Pino.

If they end up losing to Boro, I'm not too bothered as enough games on the schedule.

I actually have a theory based on things that the player has said that he may well be with us for a couple of years, as in loaned by Chelsea next year. Just a hunch though. He is also more of a left sided centre back/full back/wing back probably brought in to cover Riad once he got injured.

Heard a few reports saying that we will be back in for that guy from Bruges in January as it’s all agreed just that his current injury is ruling him out for a longer time frame than expected before then. He is Lacroix’s replacement.

It's tricky.
On the one hand you want to get a new team working as familiar unit to build an understanding asap.
On the other hand you want to give all the players a chance to prove what they can do in these early days.
I can't think of a very succesful team that has ever continually rotated.
You need a core of players who know exactly where they should be and where their teammates are at any given point on the field.

Perhaps boring, but effective and efficient with less room for error.
When succesful under Glasner, this was achieved.

Personally I've never liked the Tinkerman managers who always meddle and makes things worse.

Mind you, I can't be too hypocritical- I'm on these pages wanting to try other of our centre backs.
Players often seem much better when not selected as they can't make mistakes- hence the desire to see them, in case they are better than the one's making mistakes.

Last season Glasner flogged his preferred eleven into the ground which was one reason we had a poor league season. Sage has been given more squad options so I hope he uses them in games like this.

Why do we need to be resting players?
Surely we need to be getting them up to speed.
The need to get players not used so far some game time is understood, but to change 8 or 9 players looks like a case of massive overkill

We need to rest because we are looking at another 50-60 game season with europe and the cups with the potential for another 50-60 game season next year with champions league football. I'd like to rest because we bought 11 players in and i'd like a good look at our incomings to see how well they can add to our best team. I'm sure pierre knows, and i would like time to evaluate them in the Middlesborough game alongside the rest of the fanbase.

Understand the points you are making.

I see the priority differently as I would like a settled team asap with a properly organised unit with everyone knowing their role.
Once the foundations are established it's easier to make changes so the players don't look like a bunch of strangers.

We will see what approach Sage takes on Tuesday and whether he makes the wholesale changes which you advocate.

Sage's priority is putting out his strongest side against Ipswich and going for the win. The Boro game will see a different line up and it's a competition that we can do without.

I'm in the "make a fair number of changes " camp. Otherwise, it will be difficult to blood the new players. Sage will presumably want to treat the Europa League seriously and, unlike the Conference (in theory if not in practice last year) there are no easy games. So 'Boro at home is probably the best opportunity. In theory, getting a settled back 3 playing regularly makes sense but only if you are pretty sure who they should be: and the only player people universally seem to want there has played just one game for us
In the last round, it looks as though Boro used a few bench players but brought on their starters later in the game as they were only a goal up. They have other priorities as well

That will be the forth game the defence has been changed , that in a defensive unit is not good , you need your defence to work together to understand each other game , with international break coming up I would go for a first 11 , but there lies the conundrum what is our first 11

Not sure would play Guessand as second cm. Opportunity to start Doucoure or play Lerma and bring Doucoure on
