Archbishop Of Canterbury Resigns

"I have given it [resigning] a lot of thought and have taken advice as recently as this morning from senior colleagues, and, no, I am not going to resign." (I'm enjoying the perks too much).

Today

"I believe that stepping aside is in the best interests of the Church of England, which I dearly love and which I have been honoured to serve. I pray that this decision points us back towards the love that Jesus Christ has for every one of us." (I was told to go)

At best Welby did not act, at worst he covered up for his mate as many victims believe. From the start he was a controversial figure and rather than healing the country has interfered too much in politics. I shall not forget his promise to use the wealth of the church to help the poor only to quietly drop the pledge a few weeks later.

It's time to separate church and state.

Is he in the betting as Glasner's replacement yet?

Well, at least that would give the Church a chance of picking some good, Christian Bishops and Archbishops......

As a non believer, I hope they would appoint someone who sticks to reading scripture and keeps their nose out of politics.
Being a religious leader does not make your opinion any more important than anyone else.
In fact, I wouldn't take advice from anyone who believes in the worship of bearded sky monkeys.

Glad he's resigned. The man might have been a devout Christian, but he put politics above matters of the church, usually with a leftie bias. He was more energetic about our country paying reparations for being involved in slavery, even though we led the way in bringing it to an end, than he was calling to account and evil man who perpetrated unspeakable atrocities on small boys.

I can't pretend to be a churchgoer, but I am convinced from information in the public domain, that, through his behaviour, Welby did a lot to bring about much of the decline in church infrastructure and attendances. He has been a poor Archbishop and his departure will be seen as a blessing by many.
