Terrible injury record, but was fit all last season at Besiktas but was frozen out by their manager and had his contract terminated one year prematurely in August. Looking for a return to the premier league, now 32, a short term contract till the summer could help to fill the Sarr Afcon gap. Him and Uche fighting for a place could be an effective cut price deal.🤔

If I understood correctly he has been available since August and presumably no one has been falling over themselves to sign him.

Since when did we become a retirement-home for old broken players ?
Since we began as a club, I presume. We've always had at least one in my memory. Maybe there have been a couple of seasons where we didn't. Venables Team of the 80s and Dougie's brief spell I can't remember any old codgers but I could have easily forgotten. As I'm not exactly young myself. Young for this site perhaps - you old fuckers.

Less of the "Old". 🤣

Used to be an excellent player, stagnated somewhat at Arsenal.
Once upon a time I would have been all over this. now, not played for 8 months.... not so much

We had the veteran Micky Droy from Chelsea for a while under Coppell.
He looked like a 17 stone bouncer and was a man mountain centre back.
He couldn't run, but was surprisingly effective and was rarely outpaced.
His bulk was deceptive and he had a good touch on the ball and a decent left foot.

Droy was nowhere near the worst. Cannon probably stayed too long. We've had Adebayour - that was pointless. We've had Davids - laughable. Cahill and Delaney were brilliant. Clyne and us has been pretty crazy when you think about it. Gabbidon looked old but seemed fine. Ruddock quickly soured despite early optimism. I've obviously repressed a lot of memories. Somebody said Wilkins already. There have been more.

I recall Micky Droy, a player who started his career at Slough Town.
He scored for us on his debut against Sheff Utd, before a paltry crowd.
He transferred to Brentford, I believe signed by Frank McLintock.

I believe he was fined a few times due to weight problems.
He was a good passer of a ball with his left foot and sometimes this was not recognised.

Ray Houghton was good for us.
