Palace exit confirmed

Crystal Palace have confirmed the departure of midfielder Naouirou Ahamada to Auxerre.

A club statement read: "Naouirou Ahamada has completed a permanent transfer to AJ Auxerre.

"The 23-year-old midfielder moves to Ligue 1 after a near three-year spell at Crystal Palace.

Pretty telling we've let him walk on a free...

I did read that we've negotiated a sell-on fee, in the event his career gets back on track - I won't hold my breath on that.

Provided we are going to strengthen our squad in the coming days I’m okay with it. My other thought is that our squad is so thin that we could have done with him, Rak Saki and any others out on loan at the moment on our bench?

There is a chance we could get a transfer fee down the line if loaned out players like Saki and Esse perform well in the championship, hopefully we will be signing Gallagher to fill the void left by Ahamada

Stranger things have happened than players like this reigniting their careers elsewhere, and I hope this is the case with him. He is still only 23 having been with us 3 years. He never really seemed to inspire confidence on the pitch and sometimes people end up in the wrong environment for them at the wrong time. I wish him well in what is likely to a tough assignment at Auxerre to stay up.

Not one of Dougies finest, but you can’t win them all, I didn’t even realise he was still with us, thought he’d long gone
No one would even loan him for free. Mainly because he was playing up over going. He clearly enjoyed his 30k a week. There have been a few of these over the years. Get the money for little effort. It usually backfires with the end of a career or semi pro.

While he was on loan at Rennes last year he made 3 appearances. He must be worn out.

I have heard here and there that old school managers used to say if 6 out of 10 signings are a success, then you've done well.

I see little reason to think all the data, analysis, and other wonders have altered that ratio much, especially for the likes of Palace, where the budget often places proven talent out of reach, and dictates a bit of an informed gamble is involved more often than not.

This lad was firmly in the 'Oh well, not to worry' category of flop. Which is surely the best type?!
