A positive article.

Since optimistic articles about Palace could be printed on unobtainium I thought this one deserved some attention.

I agree we’re in a better position now, but it took us nine games to sort this out.

It wasn’t so much letting him go that was the issue (though I still think we’d be better with him AND Lacroix), it was the timing.

Doing it after the season had started meant we were pretty much having to start from square one for our defence once the season was already underway. It also rendered any pre season work OG did in that area as a waste of time. That definitely has cost us points.

Teddy, some of us come on here to have a good ol', irrational moan. Stop with this madness.

All jokes aside, I still feel as though the proof will be in the end of season pudding. Therefore despite an awful start, it is a Schrodinger's cat atm. We can neither claim to have missed nor not missed JA but articles such as this help balance my hysterical self and perhaps build some hope that things will improve (further than they have done already).

That's true but much like Olise we didn't really have much choice in the matter since Fulham were willing to pay him more as well as a quite substantial fee. He's a player who's moved every couple of years so could have been looking to leave anyway.
I'd forgotten about LaCroix carrying an injury when he arrived but it might explain why he took some time to settle in.

But whats 9 games in the grand schemes of things....

Ins and outs are never going to dovetail perfectly.

I have always wondered if Lacroix was the planned MG replacement. Talks had happened, but weren't ever going to accelerate until we accepted a bid. Newcastle then dithered, Fulham came in for an Anderson, and felt that it made sense to replace him with Lacroix.

Good article.

He looks good, younger and cheaper. Starting to shape up nicely.

Wonder what Fulham will be thinking in a couple of years time, Anderson in his early 30s, lost the little pace he had to start with, one of their highest earners (earning too much to sell). vs Lacroix who will be at his peak.

I'd bet on Anderson spending the last 2/3 years of that contract sat on the bench....

Fulham have paid top dollar for a number of their players this season and will probably not make that money back due to their ages.

I remains to be seen if this is a good strategy.

9 games is almost a quarter of a season and the points we lost there could still prove vital in the end. I hope it won’t come to it but if we end up relegated those first 8 games in particular will be a big reason why

Possibly. To be fair its the thing that annoys me most, not starting the season ready to, umm, start.

But even with almost a first 11's worth of players injured
Late signings
Summer tournaments
Disruptive international games
Some dodgy decisions
Missing loads of chances
Losing Olise

We are still 2 points above relegation.

Although we took an initial hit, swapping Anderson for Lacroix was always the right thing to do in my eyes. We've got to be smart with FPP and if we have an opp to upgrade and save some cash we've got to take it.

In a year or 2 Fulham will be in trouble, they will have the oldest squad in the league. And very little sell on value

This was exasperated by the timing of Riad's Injury. He was the one who had had the whole preseason, so losing him(and Richards) meant relying on Lacroix maybe a little earlier than anticipated.

I think Lacroix has turned out well so far and I admit I was a bit unsure after the first few games. His last few performances have been excellent though. Definitely the best of our summer transfer business.

From a pre season preparation perspective, the transfer window should be closed before the start of a new season, not after it.

That way the Manager / Head Coach knows what he has to work with. And can plan accordingly.

This pre season was disrupted by having players on international duty it's true, but losing Andersen during the season had a negative impact as well.

Didn't the FA try closing the window before the season started sometime ago?

Never expected to read a reference to quantum mechanics on the Holmesdale message board!
