Is Selhurst Cursed ?

Location
south pole
Country

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Becoming like a production of 'the Scottish Play'. Why is our Home-Form so many hundred miles behind our away-form ? Do we cry about the former ? or rejoice and give thanks for the Latter ?
It's a bit bizarre. Especially when we are on record for having the loudest fans in the League.

Why are we getting such bad luck at home ? I have always questioned the wisdom of having the linesman within earshot of a ton of away-fans. Maybe that got us today ?

Home advantage is normally massive. The players familiar with the bounce of the pitch, the length of the grass, calibrating familiar distances for a pass, egged on by the fans, the referee getting grief, strikers measuring for a cheeky long-shot, the familiar dimensions of the pitch, the 'keeper able to land a long ball with fantastic accuracy......etc etc.

What has gone horribly wrong ? Are we getting enough practice matches on the hallowed turf ? It has now got so bad that i would prefer us to play Brentford/Everton/Whoever....in THEIR back yard.

Like a haunted mansion or ancient theatre, i am now expecting to see ghosts walking the upper gantry in 1920's football outfits.

What steps will be needed to lift the curse ?

My own layman's take as not enough leadership and drive on the pitch.

You need confidence on the home pitch as you are more expected to deliver and outside of a team being in form that comes from personalities. It's something a player either has or hasn't and a lot of managers know it and value those players as having that bit extra which rubs off on other players.

Sometimes it can come from the manager.....but while I value Glasner I don't think he's that type.

Fix the guttering near where I sit?

I think we need to put on the Esse's / Franca's (not fully fit...) of the squad when we're chasing... better than endlessly passing round for a gap that won't appear. Just run at them.

I think there's a genuine squad issue with Nketiah. We put him on when we are behind, but his skills are not really suited to breaking down a low block... he's quick but not a dribbler

This has been going on for years, under different managers. When I had a season ticket five years ago and for the ten years before that I only seemed to see us win at home a few times a season. You get better value going away to watch us as we have traditionally been a counter attacking side.

Just run at them.
Is the right answer . When faced with teams happy to sit back we need wingers on the pitch that can get behind the defence . Defenders are just too comfortable when all the play is in front of them

Having said that we didn't get the rub of the green today . Calling the corner out was an insult to blind people .
And by the way why was the lino 5 yards up the pitch ,standard practice would see him standing on the goal line

The last home game I went to we were still in the Championship, I think it was the 2009 season....Anyway, we were playing Cardiff that day and it ended 1-1, Ross McCormack scored a great goal for them. They had a disallowed goal from a corner right at the end.

I went to five home matches that year.....We didn't win any of them.

Few thoughts, none of which may be right!
- when conceding two or more goals, it’s unlikely you'll win. We've done this multiple times including west ham, everton, leicester, brentford.
- we set up to play like an away team but expect to dominate like a home team. The result is we do neither
- players are more nervous at home as expectation levels are higher and try to either overplay it or alternatively play it safe (backwards) instead

we need to take a leaf from the playbook of Atletico Madrid. Play nasty and cynical........it was clear today that the ref didnt want to throw yellow and red cards about. The Home Crowd's pressure is an asset we do not capitalise upon.
Its better to take a ton of yellow cards, and win the game, than to be polite gentlemen losers. Everton did not fear us today.

there is so much luck in football and this season we are not getting any we really should not have lost that game

I get why it feels like finishing is the problem but I think defending the bigger issue. Just looked and we have conceded 2 or more goals 7 times this season at home. As above this includes West Ham, Brentford, Leicester, Everton and fulham. It’s so unlikely we or indeed any team really ever score 3 in a game so of course we’re not going to be winning. Only 2 clean sheets at home all season (Spurs and Utd!)

Not sure why this is especially as we play 5 at the back and 3 decent centre backs!

And to be fair, United should have scored that day. We were quite lucky to get a point.

They mean finding the ground.

Our home form in the last 10 years is nothing to get excited about, I think in everyone of those years, we have won away more times.

It certainly feels that way doesn't it and I think it's so close as to be worth checking out. So I asked 'copilot' to tell us.

'Over the last ten seasons, Crystal Palace has had a better record at home compared to their away matches. They have won 64 home games, drawn 48, and lost 79. In contrast, their away record shows 54 wins, 49 draws, and 87 losses'.

There isn't much in it is there....I pretty much concur with how you feel about it. Interestingly the draws summary is very similar regardless of home and away.

I suspect our home form is poorer than most similar clubs....but probably not by much.
