Seems a bit odd that he should be fully fit by now, but still isn't starting. I know Hughes has been immense but I would have thought Check would start ahead of Lerma. I think most Palace fans still see Wharton and Doucoure as our ideal midfield pairing. I hope to see him start vs Chelsea as I think we'll need another battler in there and I rate him more than Lerma in that regard.

Im not sure of that. Some achilles injuries take an age to get back up to full strength and premier match fitness. Doucoure although improving, does not look ready for the full 90 yet. But he is getting there.

Some interesting comments on Doucoure, in Glasners presser. I suspect we know this stuff, but IMO Glasner articulates everything so well. Namely:

He's going to do better against teams with a lot of ball, particularly ones who attack from the pocket, he's got good positioning and anticipation

He doesn't have the legs (that Lerma and Hughes) have for and up and down game - so moving foward probably more likely to see him in games against better oppo?

Passing still isn't crisp enough, but thats just rust so will get there

I think we have suspected that Glasner likes to ease in players returning from injuries, gone are the days of rushing players back just to sustain further injuries.

it's for a different thread but being without Wharton, Olise and Doucoure is massive, it is the main reason for our slow start and we've done well to rally like we have with what's available. It's a big if that we get Doucoure back to the level when he was PoY, and the when is probably minumum one year. I think his contract goes on to 2029, so if we can nurse him back to his old self he'll be in his late 20s by then and unlikely to seek pastures new after hopefully reestablishing himself with us - I'm clutching at straws.

Such a shame for him (and the club as a whole) it’s another serious injury. Looked like a world beater a couple of years ago. Sadly been a shadow of what he was when he’s played this season and another injury won’t help. Wishing him all the best.

As others have said we might well need at least a loan cover in midfield now.

I believe the meniscus is not as serious as an ACL injury or achilles, both of which take around a year to come back from and maybe 4-5 more months to be fully fit. I'm not a doctor, but from what I've seen, he should be close to normal by the time the 2025/2026 season starts. The silver lining is the lack of physical running may even help his achilles heal more.

Even if he does return to full fitness and become the player he was previously there'll be another player occupying the position he previously held, and not as mere filler but one who has his cemented his place in the team. Look at Hughes' form this season, he's really grabbed the opportunity for example.

Hughes is the first name in the team sheet currently and with Lerma playing well we can take time to ease Wharton back in. We also have Devenney as cover. I can see him and Wharton being used around the 60 minute mark when Hughes and Lerma are knackered. They could be our future pairing. Give Doucoure all the time he needs to get over the injury. A torn meniscus isn’t the end of the world.

You have forgotten how good CD was when he won POTY.

Him and Hughes battling it out for that one place is absolute gold dust for any team.

And don't forget Hughes is 32 and collects yellow cards

Wharton could well be top 5 best midfielders in the country. He is not an impact sub.

(Unless you are saying - play him for the last 30 while he continues his recovery. Cant disagree with that.)

Doucoure has just turned 25. He has plenty of time to recover. Our rehab team look like they know what they are doing. He will need help to get him back. Patience is the key, and that is the glory of a decent size squad which we are building. Sharing the playing time per game is all part of it.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. We don’t need to risk aggravating his injury by playing him for 90 minutes at this stage so let’s ease him back in.

No, I haven't forgotten, indeed I rated Doucoure's performances highly. What I am saying is that the game waits for no one, the club needs to fill that spot and in the meantime hope that Doucoure can return to his former self, and also I am saying that Hughes has stepped admirably into the role.
