One of the smallest in the League. Which surely affords a certain style of play, and precludes other tactics on matchday.
It is long understood that Brazil players often learn on tiny, overcrowded pitches.....necessitating a short-pass, one-two style of play. Something similar in all the football-cages of South London. The compact Diego Maradona style being more street-fighter than the spoilt academy-graduate style of Germany.

The link below is slightly out of date, but is a good discussion of pitch sizes in general. Surely the size of your pitch must be a factor in what kind of players you buy ? The long-distance Glenn Hoddle type pass being slightly less of a luxury for us than for ManUre ?

And whatever plans for Selhurst Stadium , going forwards. Surely its best to keep our pitch small ?

apparently in order for our state-of-the-art Joseph Paxton replica edifice to be transplanted successfully the Whitehorse/Sainsbury's (hoicks and spits in disgust) Stand will have to come in a bit reducing the length our beloved pasture still further - edging towards a wee square indeed.

I thought I read a while back that the length of the pitch was being extended to satisfy the minimum requirement for European competitions. We were going to remove a few rows in the Whitehorse to accommodate this.

If I remember correctly when Malcolm Allison was appointed manager one of the first things he did was to widen the pitch. Didn’t save us from relegation though.

I think I may have got it the wrong way round, they're shortening the Whitehorse and extending the pitch, but the Whitehorse End is narrow enough as it is, any narrower and you'll be watching the game from the Deli counter in the currently adjacent supermarket.

of course Chelsea are a big money side. I believe many of our good results against the Arsenal's & ManUre's are due to our smaller pitch ? A bit like the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae

Given how small our pitch is, it's amazing to think that there were times we had to fit both Schlupp and Riedewald onto it at the same time.
