Not too sure how many people would of witnessed it

But few thousand people trying to get through one door. Whilst the police ushered everyone towards the pavement. Surprised no one was hurt as it was an almighty squeeze/crush, quite scary to be in the middle.

Police response was ‘we can’t open the side gate incase there is a fire’ ‘not our problem’

Not too sure what can be done about it but is progressively getting worse every week and for younger children is very dangerous.

Absolutely correct what you are saying. When I arrived at the station at 14.05 that large gate was open....I asked the Southern Railway staff if it would be open after the match and their reply was YES.
I spoke to the same people after the game and they said that the Station Manager wouldn't allow it to be opened....bl**dy ridiculous. One day someone is going either to get knocked down or trampled on.
The police were worse than useless and caused a huge traffic jam.

A complete disaster tonight as others have said. Policing was poor at the entrance. Station staff had no idea which platforms were operating and loudspeaker message were inaccurate (and garbled!) as usual.

There might be a chance of a fire but there was more chance of someone getting crushed or run over as the crowds spilled into the road. It's funny how other football clubs can work with local rail stations to ensure large crowds of people can move freely in a station. You would have thought that with a stadium being there for 100 years the entrance and exit might be better. However, Southern, local government and CPFC aren't exactly known for their competence!

To be honest this has been getting worse at selhurst station over last couple of weeks
Customers coming out of station after game struggle to get out as so many fans pushing to get into station
We are told the big side gate carnt be opened as no permission given by southern
Police say it's down to southern
But today v Fulham it was worst I have seen
Crushing pushing and all police would say is keep on the path
As cars were tooting as so many people in the road
This is a incident/accident waiting to happen
Club and southern need to sort this out

CPISA have raised this several times, if anyone has any photos can you send them to info@cpisa.co.uk please as we will raise it again, would be helpful to have evidence of tonight. We understand the police closed the road at one point and allowed traffic through alternate sides one lane at a time and slowly to try to prevent an RTA.

Thought the safety of Stations was the responsibility of Network Rail, not network operators.

Rather more interesting.

London Bridge - and similar - Network Rail with Train Operating Companies (TOCs) able to draw matters to NR attention. Platform staff will be from TOCs.
Selhurst - Southern Station
East Croydon - Southern (part of GTR - Govia Thameslink Railway)
Gatwick - NR, as is Clapham Junction
Public not expected to know who is in charge of each station - just complain to TOC
I could go on but am feeling kind (or do not want to make an idiot of myself)

The queue has been getting worse after the game and it was further into the main road than usual against Fulham, away fans perhaps . Not sure if the other stations were working ok but it seemed busier lately, we used to drive but that’s got so unpredictable with cameras etc thrown in I changed to the train a few years back. But we need a barrier along the pavement as most of the road queue is just jumping the queue, but obviously there’s a bus stop to consider also.

I got the train back from Selhurst on Saturday as there were no trains running (to London Bridge) from Norwood Junction. So this would have contributed to the queues.

However, i got there at just before 6pm and it was a complete mess. Everyone herded into the tight walkway leading to the main entrance, but people just jumping the queue etc.

Police were there but clearly not there to manage the queue.

Not having the side gate open seems completely illogical. No joined up thinking

With Norwood Junction out of action, problems were bound to arise and should have been prepared for. Some sort of queue control should have been in force and the side gate opened. At Norwood Junction, it's better organised and if you've got a paper ticket and not an Oyster card, you can generally just go through the side gate onto the platform, unless the police have decided that the platforms are overloaded.

From my dad... He was in the 'specials' from 60s till late 90s...

"This is really weird but I was thinking only today about an incident many years ago when I was on duty at Selhurst Station after an evening match. The crowds were huge and a Palace supporter (a visitor from USA) collapsed on platform 2 from a heart attack. He was lying on the ground right next to the train, which was unable to move, and as more and more people arrived on the platform the crush got worse. The ambulance crew were stuck outside for some time and the man died. I was a sergeant then and the only officer with a radio. I called for assistance but there were so few police on duty there was little that any of us could do.

Reading the comments in the threads, this needs a multi agency approach and a comprehensive risk assessment and management plan. Palace supporters have correctly raised this as an urgent and important issue which the authorities must act upon.

You might like to share my comments on the forum. "

That sounds very distressing.

There is a multiagency approach in the safety advisory group but so far there is not a long term solution to the loss of the rear entrance. You’re right that this feels like we are lucky that someone hasn’t yet been seriously impacted either inside or outside of the station. CPISA will continue to raise and flag the concerns.
