Will doesn't get the love that some of our players get on here but i think he's great. Fans always want to see committment from our players and he gives it in bucketloads.
He is a total shithouse on the field and thats what i love about him. He was fantastic yesterday and we lost nothing when he came on. We have had a lot of players in his mould over the years Thomas,Aki Michael Hughes, Jedi. Damo to name a few and we loved them all because of they played for the shirt. Lets show Will the affection he deserves.

Not the most technically gifted, but never lets games pass him by. Always makes an impact

I feel he is a bit slow and top teams can pass around him relatively easily. However I agree that he is never less than 100% committed and every team is better for having a player like him in it. Having said that, my preferred central midfield pairing is a (fully fit) Wharton and Doucoure.

Yes and he still cant pass. But why need that if Wharton is alongside?

I agree the preferred pairing. A shame on Hughes as he has done nothing wrong and everything to merit a start. It's just that Doucoure has to be one of the best DMs in the division.

I disagree with the other posters about his technical ability.
He has good control of the ball and is adept at the short passing game, rarely conceding possession.
He's not going to split a defence with a pass or dribble past 3 players, but that's not his game.
He reads the game well and looks to be the best current partner for Wharton because they have a working partnership and an intrinsic understanding where each other is on the field.
Of course Doucoure was injured last season so didn't really play with Wharton, but eventually they could also form a good partnership.

It's hard not to love Hughes for he plays like most fans think. For example, the opposition do a bad foul on one of our players and you can almost guarantee that Hughes will wipe out one of their players within a minute of the game restarting in an act of vengeance. He is the John Wick of our team. He also knows when to 'take one for the team' but ensuring the player ends up on his back. The fact he is left-footed also adds some balance to the team.

Like others have said, if the squad is fully fit he probably doesn't start, but he's proving an important part of the squad nonetheless. Like Mateta, he also seems to have a big character, which is important when you're struggling. The one other thing is when he comes off the bench it is fun to play the game "How many minutes until Hughes gets booked?"

Most improved player this season. Gives 100% every game. No one breaks up play better and when Wharton isn’t playing he has shown he can play a decent long pass. He also reads the game well which to some extent makes up for his lack of pace. Probably shouldn’t try a shot too often!

Love Hughes. Proper Palace player. Gives his all so can’t ask for more. I don’t think he is unskilled as he is made out to be, I think it is more that he does the ugly stuff very well that the skill side of things is missed. I rate him.

I love him! He makes up for all his shortcomings with his experience and understanding of the game. I've never seen him in a bad mood, whether he's starting, being substituted or sitting on the bench. His mischievous smile alone is worth the price of admission.

Been by far our most effective player this season. We’ve looked much better when he’s been on the pitch. Crucially he wins the ball higher up the pitch than other players letting us transition into attack. Would definitely be in my starting eleven right now.
