Oliver Glasner and Slow Starts

Location
Whitstable
Country
England
Pinched from The Athletic but I found it interesting that Glasner has a recent history with starting seasons quite slowly before things suddenly click.

In 2020/21 as Wolfsburg manager, they went unbeaten for their first 11 games BUT they only won one of their first six, drawing five. They slipped as low as 15th in the table during that run before suddenly going on to win four of their next five and eventually finishing third in the Bundesliga. They also won the Europa League that season.

In 2021/22 he took over Frankfurt. They won just won of their opening ten matches, ridiculously enough away to Bayern Munich, and were down in 15th. However, they then won six of their next seven games and ended up finishing 11th.

2022/23 he was still at Frankfurt, once again beginning slowly with two points from their first three games. Once again they suddenly kicked into gear, won eight of their next 11 games and ended up finishing 7th.

Then, finally, 2023/24 he comes to Palace midway through the season, wins just one of his first six and then, of course, wins six and draws one of our final seven, taking us from 14th up to 10th.

So, although it's been a frustrating start to the season, it seems to be par for the course with him in charge. He seems to be streaky and, with any luck, suddenly we'll get on another good run soon once everything clicks.

Interesting, but didn't he win the Europa League with Frankfurt not Wolfsburg? Actually I know he did as they beat the Spammers in the semi final and Rangers on pens in the final.
