I haven’t grown up with 3 center backs. Always been 442. Lucky that the first Palace team I watched , was in my opinion , the best I’ve seen , early 90s.
I get that our 3 are decent.
Max has quickly become the main man, he’s the leader.
Guehi is very good, but for me will always be the second man, a great Cahill but never a Terry.
chalobah is decent.
But with 3 good center backs , why does woods (from forest) get soo many chances in the 6 yard box? Why does an under 6ft Ross Barkley score a header from a corner?, he’d just missed an identical chance.
Most teams play one up front , so we need 3 to stop them, if we do, surely 1 of ours should man mark their number 9.
I just don’t get how sh*t we are from corners, with 3 big lumps at the back , plus Mateta . Have we got a dead ball coach , telling our players who is marking who?
I get 3 at the back should allow our wingbacks to get forward, but why don’t our good 3 stop the opposition 1/2?
In the past we had 2 center backs when most teams played 2 upfront and we seemed to cope better.
Nowadays we should assign a man marking job to one of our 3 and have designated men to pick up on corners.
I like the 3 individually, but sometimes they seem to be making last ditch tackles, mainly lacroix, through lack of organisation.
