Save your hate for Liverpool

I think Steve nailed it . Please read everything before you hit reply .

Ok , palace , small fry , have two champion players who most people believe are happy to leave the club this window .

Eze and Geuhi . Palace make it obvious that for the right price they are willing to sanction their sale .

Eze for 68 and Geuhi for 40 ( only 1 year left and previous offers for 65-70 ). 40 ? Probably not unreasonable given the situation .

Given that Arsenal were happy to effectively meet Eze’s valuation , let’s assume Steve knows what he’s asking is close .

Palace make it pretty clear that they’re happy for Marc to leave on two conditions . Asking price met and Palace have time to get an adequate replacement .

Assume the same condition applies for Eze .

Glasner had also made it clear he wanted an early sale .

Every one knows that until a contract is signed , it can fall over . If you don’t know that you , well you should . We’ve seen that play out all the time including several times with palace .

So what do arsenal do . They come in with a realistic offer with plenty of time for palace to arrange a replacement . Palace accept the offer knowing now they have the money and time to get a suitable replacement . Leicester play hard ball , up their price , Palace can’t afford to over pay so they walk away from a player who really wanted to come , but it is a business and if you pay an inflated price this time then next time you have to negotiate a deal the club knows you’ll pay what they want .

Palace end up with Pino ( better player , cheaper price ) Eze and Arsenal get what they want and everyone’s happy .

Liverpool were you watching ….

Liverpool who spent over 400 mill now want to negotiate a deal to gain what is just over 1 % of their total spend while gaining one of the best CB’s in the EPL .

Liverpool know he wants to come , so what do Liverpool do ? Well Palace can’t force them to make an offer but they have clearly stated their two requirements

For all of those who say we should have anticipated this and should have acted earlier …
Maybe palace could go and buy a ready made replacement , but that’s not a player they need unless Marc leaves …..

If they do go out and buy a ready made replacement , Liverpool have palace over a barrel . They know Palace now have to sell . Does that make any sense at all from a business view point. Nup .

So what do Liverpool do ? they wait until the very last minute . Palace already replacements in mind , but as everyone ( including Liverpool ) knows , a deal can fall over at any time …

Two condition for the sale . Price and replacement . Price accepted but the replacement falls over , so Palace do what they’ve ALWAYS said they will do and pull the plug .

If Parish had gone ahead, he would have possibly lost his manager , alienated 80 % of the fans and also shown the big boys that you can push him around . Again he’s putting palace’s future first .

There are reasons for everything he does , you may not always agree with him ,

but ,

I always come away with the opinion he ends up making the right decision in most situations.

The villains in this are Liverpool .

They could have made a deal a month ago which would have made everyone happy , but they wanted to make sure they “ won “ the negotiation rather than having a win / win which would have had everyone ….. including the pundits , happy

If you do disagree with what I’ve said , please think about it to the point where you can give everyone reasons why you disagree , don’t just slag off on Steve.

Happy to listen to other opinions that I may not thought of .

That sums it all up perfectly. I presume we would have sold him had the loan for Igor Julio gone through but West Ham screwed that up and probably did us a favour in the process. The hysterical drivel that is coming out of Liverpool is ridiculous and for that numpty Rio Ferdinand suggesting that we bullied Guehi into staying is the last straw! We draw a line in the sand and move on.

Also assume that the reason that we pulled out of the Solomon move was linked to money not coming in for Guehi.

Also gives us another reason to dislike BHA , not that we need one …

Spot on Sir!

That is pretty much how it all unraveled, I’m absolutely giving it to the Liverpool fans on the BBC forum, you will not find a more entitled bunch than them and that’s saying something!

Well said see change, all things considered, it turned into a decent window, but I’m sure Parish will still get pelters on here from some.

My overriding thoughts are with the whole thing is……for once the spammers did us a favour with their lack of own vision and pinching one of our targets. Plus I can’t help thinking Marc will be one of the first on the team sheet for England in next years World Cup. Not sure possibly playing second fiddle to Van Dick and Konate would have done him any favours, and I’m thinking he possibly felt that as well

Liverpool sold Quansah on the 2nd of July for £35m.

They knew at that point that there were 1 senior centre back down for the season, Guehi was affordable and wanted to come.

They then waited until the 30th August to bid for Guehi.

Window wasn't perfect, but I find it completely absurd to blame, Parish for everything. Must be very difficult to sort anything out until you know if Marc was staying or going.

Liverpool left it far too late in the window, didn't give us enough time to source a replacement and bid too low to make it a compelling offer. Their fans are demonstrating extreme entitlement in directing their vitriol towards us for having the audacity to retain our best player rather than helping them, when they've already spent over £400m.

Steve Parish is a wonderful chairman in lots of ways but our transfer windows are regularly chaotic, everything is left to the last minute and clearly this is completely unhelpful to the manager who is trying to get his squad ready for an unprecedented season for us and who deserves better support from the club.

These two viewpoints are not mutually exclusive.

The only team I truly passionately hate is Liverpool!
I don’t really care about Brighton or Millwall or even Charlton. I see them a rivals, that makes match day a little bit more spicy. No more no less.
Now Liverpool is a completely different story. Their own arrogance drives me mad. I honestly think that they believe they invented football, and have this divine right to be at the top, win everything and do whatever they want.
In the 80s and 90s everyone supported Liverpool, in a similar way everyone supported Man U in the 2000s, and we took some beatings. I remember the days after the 9-0 thumping and it was tortuous!
Then my true hatred kicked in when we were denied European football for the first time. How dare Palace get into Europe ahead of Liverpool. So the authorities changed their minds about Liverpools extended ban and let them back in, and denying us. I believe this set our club back decades as not long after that, the team broke up and we were back to the second tier.

The authorities changed the rules again when Liverpool failed to qualify for the champions league the year after they won it. So what happens, they change the rules so that the winners automatically qualify.
I don’t even want to get started about their fans, as this would read like war and peace. Let’s just say that I love nothing more than putting one on them and the semi final in 90 and the charity shield was a joyous occasion, along with the numerous times we have ruined their party!

But why did SP accept the offer so late in the window, when it was obviously too late to find a suitable replacement?

This is the part I don't get, he could and should have told Liverpool to piss off, and none of this drama would still be playing out in the press.
I know we all wonder that, leaving it so late in the window is a thing with us most years, but there has to be a reason, maybe one day SP will explain it to us all. But in the mean time I’m willing to trust that he knows what he’s doing. Especially as we ended up keeping Marc, which is what we all wanted, maybe even Marc deep down

The thing I'd like to know is why are the windows are chaotic?

The senior leadership will want chaos, so I dont buy that its a lack of planning. Is it a case of not willing to pay over the odds?

What’s weird about the Igor (non) signing is that a respectable journo said earlier on transfer day that Igor signing didn’t mean that Guehi would be going and then after Igor didn’t sign for us it was leaked that his reason was that he didn’t think he would get much game time with us so went to the spammers instead.

I find that last part a tad strange if it wasn’t made known to him that Guehi would be going if he signed for us.

100% spot on thier bin dipping, victim playing scum bags disguise as a football club with the morals of a £1 hooker. Hope Arsenal win the league and rub thier nose it.

Glasner could well have said he'd be unlikely to play much. That's not Steve's decision. We can buy who we like but Glasner has to select them for the team. It's the one trait of Glasner's that bothers me. His unwillingness to give Esse/ Rak-Sakyi etc any chances. I always think you don't really know how players are until a few run-outs.

I hardly think it's necessary to hate Liverpool. They're a good side. They tried to do their best for them, we tried to do our best for us. Kind of how business and football work. I find it's one of the teams where the fans always get along fine. Unlike some of their neighbours.
However, they didn't like our Jota booing and probably didn't appreciate losing at Wembley. But f*** em anyway.
