After such a hectic day maybe it’s time to take a breath and reflect on where this leaves us.

Firstly, the squad looks a lot stronger and better equipped to cope with the demands of our European adventure. We have players who, on face value, look well capable of strengthening our bench, enabling rotation and playing in the early rounds of cup games. If they are half as promising as the cameo we saw from Yeremy last night it’s going to be fun.

Secondly, does anyone know how the scans of the muscle injuries to Wharton and Sarr went today? It would be sad if Wharton had to miss out on joining up with England.

He was withdrawn from the England squad today.
