Just a bit of balance to drown out all the Parish hate. It’s gone to another level.

We always knew that the dangers of this window were Eze and Guehi. One with a release clause, the other last year of contract.

Hard to go and replace early because, well they might not actually leave, and we don’t have big money to throw around on bench players. But also when signing a hight profile player, they will probably want to be sure that they are going to be as indispensable as you promise.

So the sensible thing to do is to have targets lined up for if and when that happens. To help speed things along, we had a release clause that expired for Eze, and Parish spoke publicly about the need to sell Guehi this window.

Window trundles along and no bids for anyone. First nibble was Spurs for Eze in late August. Eze then calls Arsenal to engineer a move there (and not that I’m bitter, tells OG he can’t play in the European game). We potentilly let Guessard go (as hadn’t got a bid in for Eze yet) Leicester are f3cking around with El Khannouss so we move on, Leipzig sell a load of players so don’t want to let Baumgartner go. End up signing Pino. Great price, great experience, perfect age. Feels like good work.

Liverpool put their first bid in for Guehi on the 30th August…..Lets assume for a moment that Parish and Glasner are on the same page (and Glasner talking in the press isn’t a threat, but clarifying the club’s stance). We look at deals for Pavlovic, Akanji, and Julio. And potentially the deal sheet was something to do with one of those or Joe Gomez. We couldn’t get those done so pulled the plug.

Outside of that. We’ve signed a LB cover for peanuts, and an experienced back up keeper. We’ve signed a very highly regarded CB prospect. We also may still get the Uche deal done. Another who’s stock is skyrocketing.

Franca is on loan to hopefully get his mojo back, and Edouard is gone!

Messy yes. But is that Parish’s fault. Potentially. Did it help that Eze’s clause wasn’t triggered, and Liverpool decided to wait until 2 days before? Absolutely not.

In Pino, Carvot and Uche we’ve signed some great young talent. Maybe the next Eze, Olise and Guehi. Ignore all the noise and IMO it’s a pretty good window.

I don’t think Parish speaking publicly about the need to sell Guehi this window was a wise move though.

You’ve mixed up Guehi and Eze in there but it’s been a long day.

If I am right we also still have 20m or so for January to strengthen again if necessary.

Add to that until Jan we have arguably one of the best defences in the league with our capt leading the way.

All in all a decent window

Important part now is to slowly mend relationships and push as high up the prem as we can

Yea , a fairly good window imo, we got a few good young players in, Pino looked very good last night , we still need strengthening in a few places . It was a bit of a debacle with the Guehi non transfer , , a replacment should have been sourced ages ago its not like it was a well kept secret that he was close to leaving and wanted to join the bin dippers . Fair play to him for his professionalism and attitude for giving 100 percent to every game and not sulking like some would do . I love OG and hope he leads by example and signs a new contract sooner rather than later .

Nail on head. Us long-suffering fans of what ever length of time (52 years in my case) ought to have got used to it by now.

It's worked out

For this season at least. I trust Guehi will overcome his disappointment and have a great season after which he'll get where he wants to go next summer (if not January). Kind of hoping it will be Real Madrid to annoy the scousers.

There is going to be a loss of funds because of Guehi but if it was that important then the replacement should have been arranged sooner rather than gamble on the deadline day. Certainly Parish and team took their eye of the ball of the replacement - probably due to Freedman going and the UEFA situation.

So we are down money on Guehi. There is some wages saving. We will probably finish higher with him than without him which is worth millions. But Nketiah was never worth £30m so we are probably £10m down on him. Franca was never worth £18m. That's football, you don't always get every transfer right. Pino looks great as an Eze replacement and a £40m net gain there. And at least a bit of money came in for Edouard.

All in all good window

Glasner has to play the hand his dealt and get on with it, Guéhi might leave in January for some cash or free in the summer or sign's a new deal who knows, if we have another good season he might stay.

Nice to see a thread which is, so far, full of restraint and balance. I'd add:

1) You can't judge incoming players for a year or two after a transfer. Even established players may fare better or worse because of the system, teammates, or manager.

2) Surely both Glasner and Parish understood the other's position, and ultimately both emerged with integrity intact. Regardless of this window's business, Glasner could leave after next year for professional or personal reasons. A good second season and he'll be in great demand.

3) As another man of integrity, Guehi will understand Palace's position, too. Assuming he leaves next summer, I hope he'll join the club of his dreams. Players seldom do.

Chaotic? Absolutely! But...... the lens most of us have is spurious media hanging on to threads and leaks from agents. The club business model, which is spot on considering our size and financial reach, with a fan-chairman/Ceo trying to maintain board control and being somewhat risk averse (for good reason) means we are often the small boat in a big ocean being surrounded by the big yachts and we are caught in their wake. Yet, these so called big professional clubs spending uber $$$ on mediocre talent, most of which gets tossed on the heap a year or two later. SO, forget the media drama; we retain our best leader and player, we add some really interesting raw talent (all of whom have international credentials), spend far less than others to protect the financial integrity of the club and we loose some under-performers.

Compared to all the hype and noise generated in this window, I think we did OK and improved the bench without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Of course time will tell, but frankly, we did OK!
