Forbes list

Apparently, we're the 29th richest club in the world!

Thanks!

The 9x revenue multiplier for the USA clubs distorts it - but perhaps it is a true reflection of the growth potential in the MLS

Just feels really weird to have Inter Miami above Inter Milan in terms of value

(though nowhere near in revenue)

None of the US "soccer" teams are worth anywhere near that. NFL, yes, US football - we've seen it all before. May as well have chucked in Chinese and Saudi teams. You can't value potential - that's just made up. They also have the potential to fold and only attract semi pro level players. How many times has US soccer been the next big thing, and then not anything at all, before?

The BBC article about Chelsea women referred to Newcastle as being sold for 4 x times their revenue whilst the Chelsea Women is apparently well into double figures. These are just made up numbers if you like a gamble the fair enough but I would not value a club using that formula.

Imagine you were going to by a B&B and the seller told you it could quadruple it's revenue, I think most of us would be highly suspicious let alone 9 times the value.

I totally agree. Though if there was a couple of acres out back with space and planning permission to put up 10 x luxury log cabins to rent out it might be achievable.

So this value calculation depends on investors prediction of what the future holds and the MLS has certainly found a more solid footing this time around in terms of 'engagement' and 'perception'. I had no idea but that's what our AI friends tell me.

They also say Beckham bought his 10% share of Inter Miami for US$25m and by the made up values of future worth means he could sell to someone who believed that for US$100m+

It's these kinds of numbers that drive investors looking to make a lot of money. And if they spend big money promoting the sport it could stick. Though as Inter Miami huge growth in 'value' seems built around Messi whether the valuation goes into reverse as soon as he retires remains to be seen. Who is the next global football superstar? Yamal? Will be a while before he heads out West.
