Best performance I’ve ever seen?

I’ve been going a long time, 50 years to be precise and I know you can’t remember every game, every great performance and obviously yesterday is still fresh in the mind, but weighing everything up, the context of what went on before, shipping five twice, toothless against Bournemouth, Villa stuffing Newcastle 4-1 after we let in five against the toon, Villa being a good side, only two defeats in 16, champions league quarter finalists, what could have been a massive turning point missing the penalty, hendo’s two saves just when they looked like getting on top, how well we defended, how well we attacked, the quality of all three goals, the fact that some players can freeze on a big occasion at Wembley. That has to be up there for me as the best performance I’ve seen in my time

I thought our 3-0 at Fulham was a perfect performance. This was even better, given the circumstances and the opposition. Only flaw was JP's pen miss - which only added to the drama, magnified when we scored a few moments later.
Yes I think my reaction is not really about the performance in general as games go, just where the performance came from all things considered and how every single player turned up on the day and gave their all for shirt. As you say when Sarr put the second in after the penalty miss, the roar from 34,000 palace fans just made it feel like it was our day

It was a perfect display... they stayed focused the whole time.. I feared the penalty miss would be our undoing.. all three goals were next level...
As has been noted the penalty miss was a good indicator of the team spirit where others were quick to console him and heads didn't go down. Especially JPM himself what with the disallowed goal as well.
It was also notable that our boys were still chasing everything down when three up in the last minute.

Having followed Palace since 1964 I can say that this has already become one of the stand out games in my history of following the club.

Obviously the setting and context of the game gave it a special importance. It's one thing efficiently dispatching the opposition in a meaningless mid-table league game, but do so in an FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley in front of 82,000 people gave it huge import.

For me the significance of yesterday was that everything came together. The whole team played their part. We may not have had the lions share of the play but ultimately we controlled the game. Add to that, 3 great goals, and you ended up with a tasty cake that had a very thick coat of icing topped off with a very large cherry.

Absolutely bl**dy marvellous.

In a nutshell Pete, my point exactly
