Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest match thread

If we have Eze we win that game.
If we have a proper bench we win that game.
We dominated the first half and should have been two up.

It was very noticeable how Mateta was out on his feet on 70 mins, that Wharton and Sarr were tiring.
Our game dropped off about 15%.
Our back 3 were excellent and just got caught our with a couple of through balls when the midfield was bypassed.

People around me got excited when Esse came on, and he did a few tricks but he didn't look like hurting them.

Hughes is a real warrior and we have some great competitors.
Eze might have scored in that game - but there have been plenty of games where even he couldn't work any magic. Sadly there are going to be plenty of comments like this in the next few games but most of them are just the usual rose tinted memories for players that have left or are injured. We had plenty of opportunities in the game and Sarr did score - our problem was that we went to sleep at the back and let them get back into the game.

We are going to get more players in - we have a week and 60m in the bank to do just that.

Esse looked promising - it was only his 3rd or 4th game and hasn't had a start yet! Maybe 40 minutes game time in the past year! The great news is that he seems to have persuaded Glasner that he can do the job he is being asked to do so hopefully we will see more of him now. He is a much needed backup player who well develop into a starter.

We play an intense, direct style of football that requires depth. Both this game and last against Chelsea we ran out of steam after a promising first half.

Really really need 3 or 4 additions and we’ll have a great shot at a top half finish and extended European tour!

As for Forest I just checked their forum and they’re all crying about the HF banner. Pathetic.

You have to work harder when you don't have the quality.

Manager really should have rotated in Conf game or used more subs I don't care if he likes hte players or not it's whats best fro the team and out of this game or that one you want your strong team against Forest.

If someone did a banner against us like this people here would be moaning as well.

I was even puzzled by the changes in this game.

100% OG is gone at end of this season doesn't matter what we do in the transfer market. (Get ready for Southgate or Dysch)

We probably deserved to be 2-0 up at half time, which I think would have changed the game. Forest always dangerous with their direct long balls, and on the one we didn't deal with they scored. Mateta didn't get much change out of the ref (1 free kick?). Their bench obviously superior to ours. In the end fairly even for me.
Esse a big plus, still young and needs bringing in slowly, but comfortable on the ball in tight areas. I didn't see flicks and tricks, more an awareness that if he just rolls the ball one ball width to the side the player diving into the tackle will miss. Also played with his head up and looked for passing options as well as getting into the box. He will grow into the season, definitely.

Oh and comedy moment was the forest guy kicking the ball OVER the Whitehorse stand into Sainos car park.

True, you can say the same for Lerma, Mitchell and Wharton at the moment which is weird because his passing is pinpoint.

I fear Munoz-Sarr-Mateta is our main (almost only) threat with that side - we definitely need something more on the left
Just tell him to pass it to the little chap in the top right hand corner of the goal.

It's not rose tinted to say Eze would have made more of the 4 great positions that Devenny had in the first half.
Not a criticism of the diligent and committed Devenny , but Arsenal will not be spending £60 + million on him.

Our squad is not strong enough and if Devenny has to continue in that left sided attackng role after the window the board will have failed.
I know Eze has gone, but it's not rose tinted to observe that Eze (or proper replacement) may well have made a difference today.

God no.....no one deserves suffering like that.

Southgate especially.....I couldn't take it.

I'd have to forget about Palace until he left.

It’s clear that we need players in.
Maybe four if we keep Guehi.

Injecting some flair is essential.

We did well today under the circumstances.

"I'm very confident [there will be signings before the transfer deadline]. I know and I can see everybody is working really hard to get the right players in. Everybody knows we have to do it and I'm pretty sure we will do it."

The gaffer sounds more positive.
First medical announced on Tuesday

Hard to say. He looked better on the ball perhaps but Devenny looks more solid. I suppose it depends on what you want in a particular game. As I've posted, considering the current squad, Kamada would likely take Eze's place wouldn't he? And perhaps he is the best option out of a lack of good options?

Two or three times he got crudely clattered when he'd got away and we were on a break. He's going to make some errors but I thought he was a threat and he'll grow with it.

It was very telling when we had a free kick just before half time left of centre in a great position for a right footed player to have a crack or bend one but we had no one who felt able to step up to mark. Instead a little dink which ok on this occasion nearly led to a goal but the lack of maverick marksman to take responsibility in such situations was and is worrying.

We need at least 3 signings, one to cover for Munoz if..god forbid he got injured. Clyne flapping around on the right is not a nice back-stop.

I'm looking forward to Willo's defence of the referee for booking Mitchell for supposedly time wasting at a throw in, and for giving a foul against Hughes for a perfectly executed tackle when he won the ball cleanly.
Now I only saw these in real time, so may have missed something!

Selz getting booked for time wasting was classic comedy gold.
