Chagos Fiasco,Starmer led!!

Why is he hell, bent on giving up this territory??

Possibly because he doesn’t want to project an international image of an ex-colonial power deciding to ignore the ruling of an international court.

Maybe he has taken advice on the potential upsides and downsides of deciding to abide by the ruling and concluded the upsides win. The base there isn’t impacted so the downsides seem minimal.

Whether Trump’s rhetoric will force a climb down is another question.

I think that this stared under the Tories but got sidelined quite early on but Labour have resurrected it.
One can only hope that Trump will stop it.
Hearing today that one of the judges working the International judiciary is a member of the Chinese Communist Party and also sat in Government there - of course her advice would have been completely impartial!
Dreadful if it goes ahead as well as costing us billions of pounds when we are bankrupt!

Breaking this morning - it appears that a court ruling has temporarily prevented Starmer signing a deal to give away the Chagos Islands. Something strange going on.

This deal certainly is a fiasco, so hoping that it's called off.

Oh well, the deed has been done. No real surprise, Starmer has ceded important strategic territory and we're paying £101m a year for the privilege.

I'd have thought we could use that kind of money to put right some of the issues we have in this country - prisons, hospitals, infrastructure, schools etc.

The Americans use the base let them pay for it.

The USA decided duh.

WE.JUST.NEED.THE.BASE

I guess it's entertaining watching someone froth at the mouth over something so benign though.

Have any of you actually looked at this island on Google? Lol.

In this case Spindle, size doesn't matter. What bothers most folk is location, location, location.

The Chagos Islands are a critical strategic asset for Britain in the Indian Ocean. They're vital to ensure our security and national interests, and to respond to threats from our adversaries.
Labour are surrendering our sovereignty over to Mauritius,at the same time they are going to pay for the privilege, spending £100 million every year for 99 years.
With Mauritius signing partnership deals with Russia and getting closer to China, surrendering sovereignty of the Chagos Islands puts the defence and security of Britain at risk.
A disgraceful deal by a discredited dastardly Government.
😡 😡 😡
