Khalili

Inter Milan tried to get him, so it's not just us that thought he had something.

For me, he is symptomatic of the disconnect between the managers tactics and coaching ability, the clubs approach to squad building, and reality.

If we had a pragmatic, conservative manager producing a settled, defensively organised team from a squad with two or three more experienced, solid pros and two or three less inexperienced young hopefuls, someone like Khalili could be introduced in fits and spurts, perhaps at right midfield, and feel his way gradually.

Instead, he's now a quivering wreck. We've exposed him to shell shock, put a bandage on him, and sent him back to the front line so often he doesn't know his arse from his elbow. If he ever was any good then we are very unlikely to see it now.

Much the same could be said of Canvot and Honest.

For what it's worth I think he'll come good. We just need to stop playing suicidal tactics and defend sensibly...I.e get a new manager. Then I think he'll make a decent contribution this season.

Canvot arrived at our club as an inexperienced defender having only played less than 20 games for Toulouse in 'Ligue 1' which is less challenging than the PL. He has played fewer than 30 games for us and has looked far from secure.
Ahanor is a relative novice having played less than 30 games in 'Serie A' before we signed him on loan.
Both players are in the 'Dawn' of their football journeys and perhaps in time, with greater experience, will be cherished by clubs.

He started well but now looks shot of confidence - same as the whole back line. I still prefer him over Mingueza.

Started well and I believe he's still a quality player (as are all our defenders). We've had some bad luck in recent weeks, but yesterday was a poor performance.

I remain convinced that if we can get a settled and consistent back 3, things will look a lot more rosy. For me, I'd bring in the experienced Lerma to try and settle the ship. Canvot is a disaster waiting to happen at the moment. Lerma - Disasi - Richards for me.

Munoz playing really well against City. What a dreadful bit of business it was to sell him and buy Khalali for the same price.

Taken off after struggling, goal came down his side too.

Once Khalili gets a manager who actually knows how to organise a defence then he'll be useful for us.

Maybe he will. He has been probably the worst player in a terrible team. He’s not shown he is good at anything and looks miles out of his depth. However, I accept it is difficult to judge any player under our current manager.

If we'd paid 20m for Wharton this summer everyone would also be saying he's complete sh*t. Add to that Canvot, Richards and a bunch of others. It's a very poor reflection on the manager.

...oh ye and JSL has also been miles off it this season... No wait he's always been sh*t, can't blame that one on Sage.

As I say I accept it is difficult to judge new players given the ineptitude of the manager. Let’s face it Canvot has always been a bit dodgy though.

I mean most young CBs have a mistake in them. Obviously he's a work in progress but last year he mostly looked solid and a real prospect. This season however...

Yeah his two big flaws are he’s not great in the air and he has some god awful mistakes in him that happen far too regularly even for a young player. If we’d recruited properly he shouldn’t be a starting centre back in the premier league as he is still developing.

I agree though we definitely cannot judge the centre backs as a group. Sage’s tactics / ineptitude leave them constantly chucked under the bus. Even the best defenders in the world would be struggling
