US Politics

Executive Orders cannot be overturned by Congress, that is done by the Supreme Court and the judicial system. When Trump's administration has been dumb about it, it has been overruled by the courts. When his team actually did their homework on it, the courts let it go as they are currently during with Canada.

The challenge with removing Presidential authorities is that both parties have a belief that they will win the next Presidential election and don't want to give away a tool that they may want.

The last time the US declared war was June of 1942. Bonus points if you know who they declared it against. Hint, all three are part of NATO. What we may see is a repel of the 2001 Congressional Authorization, which has given multiple presidents carte blanche to do what they wanted to in the Middle East.

He absolutely will get congressional inquiries (technical term for congressional investigations). But trying to charge the Executive ends up being waste of time because of Executive privilege and his ability to pardon everyone for any federal crime they are accused of. I expect we will see the bi-weekly impeachment of Trump and Hegseth. But since nothing else is going to get done other then budget continuing resolutions and naming post officers, it gives Congress something to do.

The Republicans are going to have a Come to Jesus over the next two years in the run up to 2028 and trying to figure out who they want to be. Trump will continue to make it about him and it will be interesting to see if his staff can limit the damage he causes to the Republican Party or does his burning desire to make everything about himself cause them damage into 2028. My guess is that he cannot help himself and that 2028 will be about how the Republican candidates can separate themselves from him while trying to keep MAGA support.
I am shocked to read that from a US citizen, because it isn’t true. It can be done, even if it isn’t easy or accomplished very often. Congress can pass a specific law that nullifies an executive order. The President, in turn can veto that law, but doesn’t have to. Should it be vetoed the veto can be overturned by a supermajority in both houses. Which is obviously difficult to achieve but isn’t impossible. In fact it’s probably more possible now than for many years. The new House looks to be dominated by Democrats so it won’t take too many disenchanted Republicans looking to their futures to vote with them. That’s even more likely in the Senate where a significant number of Republicans loath Trump and may well feel their future is best served by putting distance between themselves, Trump and MAGA. Many dream of restoring the GOP onto its traditional base and have no time for the current version of their party.

Never forget that Congress also has the “power of the purse” and can starve Presidential projects of funds if they disapprove of them. Whilst not legally overturning them it has the same effect.

You get some of the above but not the immediate impact it’s likely to have on him being able to dish out executive orders on pretexts.

Whilst Trump has, and doubtless will continue to, dish out federal pardons he cannot protect against state level charges. No one knows that better than him!

That is because I'm using precise words and you are not. To overturn is a transitive verb that means for a higher court or review board to declare a previous judgment no longer in effect. What you mean is supersede, which means to replace.

I do understand your overall intention though, and agree that Congress does have work arounds to get around Executive Orders by passing new legislation. Those work arounds are drastically easier to talk about though then they are to actually put in place as they tend to come with political ramifications in some areas that they just picked up. It is drastically easier and less politically costly to push it through the courts and make them do the dirty work instead of burning their credibility on something silly.

The issue with the House is that what plays well in dark blue states is going to ensure they are a single term and done in the conservative areas that they just picked up. If they focus on the economy and going after people like Hegseth they will be safe, but they won't, and the crazy's are going to go after things that the new members in conservative areas won't be able to support long term and will cost them their seat in 2028.

Republicans are trying to figure out how they cut out Trump while keeping MAGA engaged. That will be an interesting trick going forward as I'm not sure anyone in the administration (outside of Rubio) has enough pull left with the Republican base and with MAGA to be able to thread the needle.

Starving the budget is drastically easier at the beginning of the fiscal year (or when the budget CR is passed). Currently operating under a CR, we are likely going to see a short term CR to make it a Democrat probably in January and then we'll see how silly it gets.

State Level charges for federal government activities tend to be a challenge and becomes drastically easer for their misdeeds outside of the office. Trying to get the Sec Def on state charges would be a challenge to pull off and getting publicly embarrassed as a State AG attempting it would be the end of their desire to be Attorney General of the United States. Now if you are the California AG and you want to use it as a springboard for a Senate campaign? Then maybe you try. You just are probably going to lose.

Trump will absolutely continue to dish out Executive Orders like candy though and he just won't care when most are knocked down because he cares more about the headline of making the initial announcement then he does with any actual change.

Which only serves to prove a contention I have held for many years, made here on occasions and is getting worse every year. Which is that the US system is no longer fit for purpose but so restricted by itself that it cannot repair itself.

It requires a complete overhaul of the constitution which was written for a different age but is held as sacrosanct. Maybe a breakup and then a reformation under a new, looser arrangement will be your eventual salvation. I won’t see it though. China though has already won.

I seen that. But I think maybe in the long term they will rebound and stabilize with the Democrats able to keep trump in check now.
Markets require certainty and stability. This shock was purely due to the democrats stating an intent to regulate AI. Once this policy is known and predictable the market will adjust and settle.

In other words, this is not a damning enditement of the democrats.

That is taking a nuclear weapon to a house because there was dust inside. But because I'm a curious human being, what replaces it?

Which governmental structure has proven to be more effective then the US constitutional federal republic that has turned the United States into the most dominant nation the world has ever seen?

The Chinese fantasy got cancer in 2008 and the the Chinese solution to that issue has since caused them issues with the global commune which took away their golden goose. China is in a death spiral that it is going to result in a war if the Chinese people ever wake up that they gave up their families for a short term economic dream that was only real for people higher up in the party.

This is typical in US elections. It normally goes for about 48-72 hours and then people remember that the new people don't take over for another two months and it goes back to steady state climbing.

What will damning indictment of the Democrats will be if they decided to go full retard in pushing DSA economic policies which will basically ensure a Republican victory for the White House in 2028.

2027 will be a fantastic indicator for who is in the drivers seat for 2028. The other big indicator will be the Democrat primary in 2028 and who can consolidate the centrists quickly behind a single candidate or do they all stay in, split the ticket and a far left candidate sneaks in.

The USA is too big to have one ruler over all 50 states. Unless every state has the same rules and law system. The uk is small enough to have this although lately it does seem to have differences in both of these in certain cases around demographic and political persuasion!

No it’s not. The house is crumbling on its foundations and will collapse if not completely renovated. It is replaced by a modern constitution that continues the principles of the original whilst addressing them in the context of today’s world.

I have no idea where you get the idea that China is in a death spiral. I suspect you might have been swallowing too much hard right propaganda in the US. They have a much greater capacity to adjust to change than the USA and infinite patience alongside a well educated workforce. The people there have seen unbelievable progress during my lifetime. Not just the top echelons.

The USA used to be the most dominant nation the world has ever seen, but that title will be taken by China if it hasn’t already. This is their century just as the last was yours. Forget trying to win a battle that’s already lost and put your own house in order.

So nothing, you have nothing to replace it with other then meaningless rhetoric. I was hoping for something deeply introspective but once again you come up lacking.

I get it from decades of research and listening to the people who have made studying China their life's work. This is all out there for you to learn, you just choose not to put in the effort. I would recommend Shambaugh, Shirk, Pei for Western perspectives and Xuetong, Jisi and Huiyao if you want to hear it from the Chinese perspective. I don't think you are serious about studying China, I think you operate purely off of emotions and your own uninformed views which drives you the way that it does.

The challenge that comes up with studying China is that all of their numbers are lies and the Chinese know it. That is why China has a better ability to mask issues then the US, it doesn't have nearly the adaptability that the US does to adapt and evolve how it wants to function. The Chinese solution to its real estate crisis is that they overproduce and dump on foreign markets, which is what they have done in Europe and are getting ready to do in Canada.

There has absolute growth in Chinese GDP per capita, and all it cost them was future generations. They had an economic miracle that will never be equaled in world history, primarily because they have served as the warning to other nations to not be taken advantage of like that again.

There is a common saying regarding China that I'm sure you haven't heard because you just don't study it, but it says, "China got old before it got rich." Chinese demographic decline and its deep financial constraints are going to prevent it from returning to the high trajectory growth it had been on before.

I actually think it will be selecting, as their candidate for president, a Muslim woman in a wheel chair in full hijab with a limited grasp of English.

You are clearly transphobic because everyone knows that Mauree Nivek Rajah Salima Turner will be making a political comeback.

Only issue is that he/she/they/toaster/it are not wheelchair bound but that wouldn't stop he/she/they/attack helicopter/it from using one while campaigning.

All that diatribe proves is the lack of reality in the USA over the situation they face. I don't write constitutions. That's the job of experts. All I know is that the one you have isn't functioning and that your system has become beholden to the God of money and not to the noble principles espoused by the forefathers.

The Chinese numbers speak for themselves. They have hit many bumps and will need to continue to adapt but they, despite your assertions, are much more adept at doing so than you are. You haven't learned and changed. You believe you are entitled and invincible.

I have travelled widely in the USA and visited China, although not seen nearly so much of it. I have no doubt though which country is best able to succeed in today's world.

So you have nothing other then your emotions. Cool. Kind of your modus operandi, rant without substance.

The Chinese numbers are made up. And since you embrace dishonesty and lies, they work perfectly for you. Between demographic decline and a lack of a domestic market, the Chinese economy currently survives on industrial overcapacity and that game is starting to hit roadblocks in markets such as the EU and US.

Americans are absolutely entitled and spoiled being from the greatest country in the world. As far as the US being conquered? I'm sure some aliens could come on down but otherwise it probably isn't happening today and tomorrow isn't looking likely either.

Good, so have I. I've also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, which is about as valuable as your thoughts tend to be on these subjects.
