Positives from relegation

i relish games against the likes of Middlesboro, Preston, West Brom....much more than dealing with the plastic fans of Manchester and Croydon-based Arsenal fans.
 
The sentiments on this thread echo my own. Having witnessed the spine getting ripped out of our squad time and again.......its wearysome trying to keep fighting the ever-climbing wave.

The lack of loyalty from managers and players......that is normal. The fans ARE the club.
This season, i want us to win the Europa League.......anything else, including Prem survival, is a bonus.
 
If you want a further indication of the madness of the Premier League, Forest have bid £40 million for 19 year old midfielder Armstrong from Everton , who I doubt too many on here have even heard of.

I suppose Forest may think they have got him on the cheap as Man City paid £85 million for their teenage midfielder!

I'm not sure where this ends, perhaps like the West End theatre where tickets can cost in excess of £100.

I've long since retired, but when I'm reincarnated I'm coming back as a football agent.
10-20% taken off the top of multi million pound contracts for doing little more than feeding a few stories to Fabrizio Romano.

There are two obvious downsides to relegation. All your best players want to leave. Nothing new there then, regardless of what division we are in.

There is NO VAR in the championship. (I can celebrate goals again)

We will see proper away fans again, and not all the plastic ones that follow the big boys.
(What made Leipzig so great was that the Rayo Vallecano fans were proper fans and made for a great atmosphere)
We might win more than 3 home games in a season
Not likely to play on a Thursday, Friday night or a Sunday lunch time. (I miss 3pm Saturday kick offs)
Less tourists.
Some of our newer “fans” may decide that the turmoils of Palace isn't for them. A true fan will keep the faith no matter what hardships we face.
2 proper rivals in Millwall and Charlton

I’m sure there are some other benefits, so apart from the initial embarrassment of relegation. I won’t be that upset.

People yearning for relegation are strange. Why do people support a football team, generally to see them win and be successful. Therefore, if Palace fall into the Championship, the aim would be to win matches and get promoted, so we end up back where we already are. Unless you are a Leicester, Blackpool, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed, Bradford, Luton, Barnsley, Reading and wigan, who all got relegated from the Premier and looked forward to winning matches in the Championship. It didn't quite work out and they are all now in League One.
 
We're all different and there are no rights or wrongs as to why people support football clubs.

I got hooked on Palace in the late sixties and have seen us in the old third division and playing in front of crowds of a few thousand.

If it was just about success and winning, people would only support the likes of Arsenal, City and Liverpool.

I have fonder memories of other less succesful Palace teams than the ones that e g won the FA Cup and the Conference League.
I have greater affection for players who seemed to have a genuine affinity for the club rather than some of the mercenaries who just see Palace as a means to an end.
I would take a Jim Cannon any day of the week over a Lacroix.
In time I'm sure I'll look back with a greater regard for Mitchell than Munoz.

That's my preference, but I'm sure many will see it differently.
