Chrislain Matsima

i don't mind us walking away from any deal if the goal posts keep moving, or we don't think it represents value for money, however, we desperately need a plan B option.

Regardless of whether we are to play 3 CBS or a back 4 we need one who can win 80% plus of headers.

Riad and Canvot can play second fiddle with another defender who can organise and control the defence.

Richards is ok, but not sure he can step up into the Lacroix role.

If the plan B is a 19 year old kid, an injury prone Japanese player and/or an overpriced Chelsea cast off we are in trouble.

Hopefully Sage has a potential alternative up his sleeve.
Your last sentence raises an interesting point.
What if Matsima was Sage's choice given the knowledge that Lacroix was moving?
Managers tend to be less to be less concerned with why moves fail, they just want the player.

It's said that everything was in place with Matsima, and I'd be very surprised if Sage wasn't in the discussions with him.

The move for Tomiyasu to possibly be an alternative to Lacroix has echoes of when we tried to fob off Glasner by offering Igor as an alternative for Guehi.

I like Parish, understand that we are in relative terms small fry, but nonetheless am baffled by our approach to transfer dealings.
If we can't bolster our centre back ranks with a first team ready player and are looking to rely on an injury prone Riad, Tomiyasu (who is really a right back) or a young French player with 6 professional appearances, then Lerma may be our best signing of the summer.
At least he has demonstrated that he can play in the back 3 in the Premier League and understands the way we play.

I am wondering if Sage has decided to spend the money on a midfielder instead.

1. Japanese guy on a free as back up
2. Buy the young kid from France - cheap and ease him into the squad
3. Buy a good midfielder with the money we would have spent on Matsima?

And another recommendation, forget the Cups, fail in Europe in order to stay in this division at all costs.

How much input does Sage have? Average stay of a manager in EPL is well under two years, so less than players. Parish is very hands-on and he has a sporting director

A lot of jumping to conclusions above. I've seen recent rumours saying that whilst Matsima was our preferred choice, there are other names on the list and they're not Tomiyasu, Le Guen and Chalobah. Time will tell if that is indeed the case, but in any event, I would be very surprised if Matsima was the only name on the list as an experienced CB replacement for Lacroix.

This suggests the alternative to Matsima is 21 year old Zeze who plays in Saudi.

No, I've never heard of him either.

Even if he was our first choice, we don’t need to let ourselves be made to look like complete idiots. Clubs in Germany simply double the transfer fee when a Premier League club makes an enquiry. Or should we perhaps sell Lacroix for a certain amount and then buy a replacement for 5 million less, who might maybe one day be as good as Lacroix? Ridiculous – Augsburg can take the mickey out of anyone else. Well done, Steve Parish.

For me typical Parish - procrastinates and procrastinates - then pulls out too difficult to do..!!

We have £52M form the Lacroix deal - what’s the problem..??

We should be getting in Matsima and Le Guen with that..!! Remember we still haven’t replaced Guehi..!!

Riad, Richards and Canvot - won’t be enough..!! Arguably not good enough..!!

Don’t know why Im surprised - Parish does it every window - Sage must be wondering what have I got myself into..!!

😡

Hopefully Sage has more than one ready made option. I think i'd trust his judgement more than Hobbs'.

BTW whilst we definitely need another CB Tomiyasu , if fit, is a decent acquisition. He's still only 27 and is 6 ft 2.
He plays in a back 3 for Japan (or did in WC anyway) so could play left or right if we were to play a back 3 with i'm guessing Richards in the middle.

Encouraging us to just spend way over value isn't very sensible.

Come to think of it wasn't Textor also pushing Parish to spend spend spend?

Adn how do you know that we havent replaced Guehi....maybe Canvot and Riad were the replacements, just brought in early as we knew Marc wasnt resigning.

I too am glad we haven’t kept upping our offer on this one. It felt as though we were being held to ransom a bit so I’m glad we’ve walked away.
It’s not good business just to keep caving in, as clubs get to know they can try it on.

Mate we now have 3 centre backs - in a 3-4-2-1 formation - we need at least 5..!!

We now have £52M for Lacroix - course teams going to push up their prices for their best players - we need to sign 2 centre backs.

We’re in Europa - we need depth..!!

Just don’t get the blind faith in Parish..!! He does it window after window..!!
