I don't have to be his best mate, I just have to know that when it gets tough he isn't looking to hide.

I like the honesty, if he does or doesn't have time for you then you find out.

Always know who has your back from those who will smile at you but then talk behind it.

So while you don't put the Roy Keanes' of the world in diplomatic type roles I've always had time for that type of chap.
 
I find Keane really difficult to take seriously, when he looks like Santa. A very angry Santa. 😀
 
I’d like to see Keane and Shearer in the same studio after their dust up at St James’s Park. Will probably never happen and is why Keane works for itv at international tournaments.

Keane would probably hate most players these days if he were a player. Even more flashy, materialistic, self interested in their careers, image and image earnings etc. Part of the problem is society and part of the problem is the industry and wages/payments to players before they’ve played for the first team. But then how many people are there like Keane coming through or even growing up?

Probably none because top level sport has changed to the extent that players with his attitude are now seen as a liability; rugby punishes the sort of tackling that used to be commonplace let alone the more blatant thuggery that often happened and cricket doesn't allow intimidatory fast bowling to the same extent. Roy Keane got 11 red cards in his career and now wouldn't last many games - he'd have his own VAR team.
I used to know a girl who grew up with him in Cork who said he was actually much more friendly than he seemed (admittedly she didn't play football against him) having seen him, or at least the version of himself he presents, on the Overlap on Tour where he's quite dryly humerous I suspect I'd rather be in his company than Carragher, Neville or Ian Wright.

Keane would probably still make it as a def mid or box to box midfielder today. Yours is a good post but I said people like him, not players like him. There might be a few with some of his qualities but not many with most of them, hence why he tears into players as a pundit, but he does praise very good players and professionals too. He just isn’t renowned for it.

Yes, that's fair enough. Players with a bit of dog in them are a huge asset it's just that the edge at which he played has moved. Players whose attitude makes them leaders are invaluable; something of a combination of teammates knowing they'll never give in and not wanting to let them down.
When I was a kid my two favourite non-Palace players were Dave Mackay and Denis Law who both had those traits as well as being skilful - which is also matters!

Nooooo, not Wrighty😎 I’d love to sit with him and just reminisce about every goal he scored for Palace 😁

Problem is though that he only seems to have two settings - either wild excitement or miserable moaning and veers between them at will. It looks quite tiring.
Keane's wry amusement would be easier to take.
Added to that his time at Palace doesn't feature high in his list of favourite subjects.

Wright is a legend for sure but I prefer Bright as he's a Palace man.....Let's be honest Wright prefers Arsenal and would choose them over us everytime.

That Cannon nonsense was the final straw for me.

I just can’t believe any palace fan who was around at the time of Wrighty playing us, given the choice, would rather meet Roy Keane ahead of Ian Wright, whatever their personalities

Doesn't work like that for me. I like Van Morrison's music but wouldn't want to meet him because he's a world renowned miserable bugger and two of us together would be too much.

I’ve never really understood palace fans holding this against him, he’s rightly proud of his time at Arsenal with the goals he scored and the trophies he won.
For me he was a breath of fresh air for palace and I loved his time with us, especially after the donkeys we had up front immediately before him(except Kevin Mabbutt) so I can never hold his love of arsenal against him
