People who should be deported

Somewhat, it is geographical selection in terms of where the court is. Also, you can only be called if you are on the electoral register.

Well yes. But it couldn’t really be more random other than pulling people off the street.

There are criteria is what I am saying. I would agree with pulling people off the street so their status can be checked. Might not produce a bigger jury pool but would help identify those here illegally. Those unable to produce proof of identity may be liable to being detained while the check is carried out. No nonsense of reporting with your documents in two weeks time etc. Miscreants would be taken from street to deportation facility, possibly allowed to collect some personal effects if securely accompanied and if they give up details of if they were working, where it was and who employed them etc. If not, it's the clothes you were wearing at the time. Phone subject to investigation etc etc. No privacy bs , where there is a question of age then medical tests to determine age at will of the authorities. DNA swabbed and biodata entered into facial and gait recognition system.

Are you OK, Owen?

There you go again, Dantifa/ Alan, why can't you stop yourself posting personal ad hominem nonsense.? And, best avoid anything related to legal issue or facts.

Your inconsistent posting worries me that you are at different times influenced by different ingestions. Look after your health

Having just done jury service it literally is completely random.
Pedant note.

It became clear when I did jury service that the court staff have a huge say in who goes on which trial. I am not suggesting anything sinister just that a human being picks the 12. I have no idea how this happens. On selection days there were about 100 of us in in room and as each case was called names were called out. It appeared to be random but who knows what selection criteria they were using.

The sexual assault case I was on only had 3 men and yet we were about 50% of the jury pool. Accident, unintentional?

I could see the possibility of a court official manipulating the process (theoretically) for a specific case.

And then again there is the actual jury pool. In the US they say only the unemployed, retired and stupid serve, everyone else ducks out.

As I said pedant point.

Participating in important decision-making. They will allow just about any Loon to influence the lives of others.

Anyhoo............

People who should be deported :
The Long-term unemployed who play pitch & putt most days. And their ilk. Including the legions who feign to have something wrong with them so they allegedly 'cannot work'.
They often live in better homes & drive better cars than working people.
Margaret Thatcher was absolutely correct on this one. One of the very few politicians who saw the rot. She had a particular disdain for the Fecund Long-term unemployed - them having intercourse mid-morning while the rest of us are working in the day-job.
Widdecombe was another visionary who saw how unfair and rigged the game is.

it is perhaps illustrative that places with the highest levels of crime also contain the highest levels of longterm unemployment. Mostly, but not always. They seem to commute into Westminster every morning to cause merry hell.

Ours were just chucked out a computer at random! The only time it got filtered down was for a 5 week case that a lot of people couldn’t commit to because of work/holidays/childcare etc.

Ah, can I ask how you know that? The staff were not forthcoming with me (fair enough) but again as you know computers are not random, somebody will have programmed it so there is always a bias.

Who chooses the jury.....who makes the direction to the court.

All I need to do is look at the recent changes made to rape cases and I know that this won't be a fair trial.

And that due to intense media attention over many years a fair trial by jury is already compromised. Should be 3 experienced judges.

Besides. He's a Muslim so he'll get off when Muslims back him up as part of the islamic nation

I was sat close the person looking after the jurors and each time a trial was ready to start this machine just started chucking out names. I got put on 3 different trials over the 2 weeks (all collapsed for different reasons!) and each time the people selected were completely different.

I think you’re trying to see bias because you want to, Badger! From my experience I am not sure how much more random it could have been.

I’m beginning to think three judges would be better for many cases. Albeit they can have a bias but will be aware of law a bit better than 12 Joe publics who hold someone’s future in their hands. My cousin vinny shows the bias that can happen but evidence eventually creates the correct ending. The prosecution lawyer makes the decision. I know it’s comedy but sits on the side of reality.

Yeah I think I agree. Difficult to know really either way but think I fall down on this side rather than 12 jurors with little to no legal knowledge or experience.

I never said that. I said I didn't know how jury's were selected but that any system would have an in built bias. You now clarified it was done by computer but what algorithm does the computer use? Just saying.

I was on 2 trials, once selected the whole jury was rolled over to the second trial. I've no idea who or why made that decision.

In both cases I think we reached the right decisions but I could not say the second trial was random.

I imagine something as unsophisticated as a random name generator!
