Thoughts on one of our ex-academy stars signing a new 6 year contract with Chelsea ? My memory was he was a talented player and scored some great goals in his academy time at Palace. He though to me looked to be a little lacking in pace for a front player. Looks like he will be playing in the Portuguese top division next season so looks like Chelsea believe there is a player in there.

In my view he's high championship, lower Premier league level at fulfilled potential.

I think Chelsea end up selling he rather than him eventually becoming a serious part of their team.

Will they make money on him compared to the resources spent on him?....only time will tell.

If Derry had stayed at Palace he would never made it like he has at Chelsea.

He would have joined the Mark Bright loan-go-round and probably disappear somewhere.

We have a very poor record on home-produced players comning through, one or two exceptions only.

Mustapha off to Wigan for a year, he is too talented for us, we suit the average/quite good types who will never really make it.

😎

Are you expecting him to be a regular in the first team at Chelsea then? Chelsea stock pile young players more than anyone and loan them out. I think it’s the other way round, he stood more chance of breaking into our first team if he’s that good
The only thing he’s probably improved going to Chelsea is his bank balance

Most EPL clubs have a poor record of home produced players coming through. It’s incredibly difficult given the standards required and the fact that the EPL can attract global talent as well as the very best from lower leagues

We will likely get a sell on percentage when he goes to a second division team in Spain or France etc. A couple of hundred grand or so. That's what I would suspect. A 6 year contract means nothing at Chelsea. Probably a way to cook the books. I suspect youth and academy and U21 wages can help with financial rules in some dodgy accounting way.

Oooh so bitchy. 😀

I hope you're right about Mustapha, I was highly impressed by what I saw at the academy.

I think if he applies himself he has a good future.

One of the most prolific EPL/EFL academies, with the likes of Powell, Salako, Osborn, Southgate, Morrison, Scannell, Grabban, Routledge, Moses, Jonny Williams, Clyne, Zaha, Razak, Jerome Williams, Kwesi Appiah, Wan-Bissaka, Mitchell, Madueke, Rodney, Rak-Sakyi, Imray, Ozoh, Whitworth, and so many more coming through over the years.

I find it so strange adults calling a young kid who they've never met and know hardly anything about 'arrogant' and 'a c***' just because he went to a different club.
His grandparents live in the flat next to mine. I see Shaun from time to time.
Grandad speaks very fondly of Jesse. He was offered a better deal at Chelsea (including training with the first team) and so left us. It happens.

Fair, but come on this is a football forum and not only that but people lead stressful lives and look at footballers as....in a lot of cases incredibly entitled jackpot winners leading vastly better lives.

If even slight infractions against our club happen.....this lad left us after being offered a good contract.........then fans of our club are entitled to annoyed observations.

Yes absolutely we are entitled to be annoyed. It's still weird that people interpret the move in that way though. Both those things can be true without cancelling each other out.

In reality it speaks nothing about the player's character either negative or positive. It is what it is.
