Eagles playing at the World Cup

Wasn’t impressed by Guessands second half appearance against the Germans. It’s like he is constantly searching for the right area to put himself which should come naturally to a forward.

Having seen Guessand a bit now I just don’t think he’s particularly good. I am not sure what exactly his strengths are. I know what they should be (pace, directness, running past people) but from what I’ve seen he looks lacking

I think there's a player in there and there's an opportunity to get him at a knock down price. They'll take almost anything. At a guess - 15 mil. Not even all up front. I know we had an agreement but I believe we can still make a different offer when the window opens.

And should have got a penalty when his overhead kick was deflected wide by a handball . The TV ref said VAR should have looked at it as it was on target so a pen should be given .

Nothing doing though . Its been a strange WC so far for VAR . Some clear and obvious errors not pulled up and some violent conduct (That would see red in the PL) ignored . Thats fine with me but you just know a daft decision is coming up any time soon from the guys in VAR room

Offers much more than Johnson and Nketiah and a player with a bit of trickery. We are going to need a good squad for next season. Definitely a keep for me.

Like all forwards, he needs a run of starts to show his best. I can recall Mateta telling Hodgson that if he gave him a chance he'd score goals but until Hodgson was forced to use him after Edouard's injury in the Liverpool home game (a truly serendipitous event) he hadn't had more than 4 starts in a row during the 3 years he'd been at the club (arrived in Jan 21 and started his current run in the team after the Edouard injury in Dec 23). The rest is history. I'm not saying Guessand will come good but until he's given a run of starts (not 20 minutes off the bench) then it's difficult to judge him properly. I do, though, think he's shown enough to be worth a punt at £15m.

A really good perspective that.

Not saying I 100% agree or believe it to be correct, but I enjoyed reading it as it covers things I have not considered.

Agree with all of this, although I do note we are stacked for inside forwards and wingers.

Depending on outgoings, I would sign him up again.
