Breakfast with Bruce Dyer!

Brucie ' bonus' was such a frustrating player.

One minute could beat 2 or 3 players and the next look like he's never seen a ball before.

Even when he did well there were comical moments - a hat trick v leicester in the FA cup included a goal that just hit his shin from a cross and rolled apologetically over the line.

His penalty miss v Leeds summed up his Palace career. 2-2 in the last minute and Palace get a penalty. Martyn is in goal and Leeds delay the kick for about 5 minutes arguing about nothing.

Bruce, not an obvious penalty taker, had the courage to step up and Martyn saves. However, the ball squirms back to Bruce and he has the whole goal open in front of him. However, rather than just tapping it in, he takes a wild swing and miskicks. The ball rolls agonisingly wide. We lost the replay.

Even his departure was strange. We agreed £1m with Fulham and then a few days later he moves to Barnsley for £700k!

Breakfast with Bruce.

I wonder if the night before would be an avalanche of black pudding, or whether it would be tender and loving.

Asking for a friend 😀

I remember people used to pronounce it Dwyer instead of Dyer.
I remember the game against Watford after we bought him. Their fans were pretending to worship him. I always thought he was rubbish.
I viewed Dyer as physically strong and difficult to shake off the ball but his first touch sometimes let him down and his final ball/cross was not of the desired standard. He was erratic and not very composed on occasions.
