Champions League Final

Another disappointment for Prime Gooner Sir Keir tonight. How long before he points out that it was a far right penalty that cost them?

People who take part get a medal that is how silly it has become now.

50 are awarded
Back in the good old days they only handed out 11 medals in the 1966 World Cup. And if any player had been unable to finish the game, injured or dismissed, they would not have got one

I guess that's what happens when you try to 1-0 your way to glory. It finally paid off for them in the league this year but I have to give my praise to the referee who didn't want to take their antics for a second and was even quick to dish out yellows for their time wasting.

On the other hand I f***ing want dirty Arab oil money out of our game for good. It was going to be a dark day for football whoever won.

I was happy that Eze missed a penalty and Arsenal lost because it demonstrates to players leaving Palace for bigger clubs that the grass isn’t always greener in terms of outcomes.

Had Eze and Olise stayed at Palace, they might have won a European trophy. By chasing the ultimate glory, the ended up with nothing. I hope their bigger pay packets made up for it.

There’s always next time boys. 🙃

Arsenal are anti football so no tears for them.

As for Eze as much as I love the guy I am fed up with players that take silly run ups and then miss.

When I played golf I was going to put and my dad said what are you doing? Practising I said then he pointed out that if I actually hit the ball like that I would miss so practise as you intend to hit the ball.

My point. Eze stood central in front of the goal / penalty spot as though he was just going to run forward and hit it. Then as he started his run up he took 2/3/ paces to the left. He should have started there or directly run at the ball. He then got himself lost in his run up and didn't know what to do.

I think Ally McCoist said don't over complicate it .

And at least half the team ended up selling their medals because they needed the money.

Don't overthink it either. Put the ball down, run up and hit it. No one needs to psyche the goalkeeper out - just beat him and if he knows you're going to stagger about on your run up he'll just ignore it anyway.
I think penalties scored in shootouts should count on a player's record.

I recall PSG's Vitinha when he was on Loan to Wolves from Porto.
Wolves did not exercise the option to purchase the player at the end of the season. He is now the mainstay of the PSG team playing over 120 games for them.

Totally agree with this. The biggest crime of a penalty is to miss the target. If it gets saved so be it but to miss entirely is criminal, in my opinion. And how can you focus and concentrate when you’re bouncing around, dodging left dodging right, stopping, starting, going slow, pigeon steps etc - all in an attempt to put off a keeper who knows he’s got little chance if you smash it hard and fast into a corner. It’s bollocks, it really is, and if I was managing a team (and I did, for many years) and someone did that it would be absolute tea cups across the dressing room and fine territory.
It’s a failed psychological experiment and it’s cobblers.

Arsenal didn’t deserve to win the game. Once they got in front they stopped playing football and when the inevitable equaliser went in, they could not switch the football back on.

The brand of football they play is seriously dull and relies mostly on taking chances at set pieces, but even that was nullified due to a European ref being in charge who didnt stand for all their pushing and holding nonsense so the threat was largely nullified.

I look at the England team with much of our threat supposedly going to come from Saka, Madueke and Eze and it worries me that two of that number didn’t even start the game last night, so the England forward line is basically Arsenal reserves. Doesn’t bode particularly well.

Englands a great point. Do England pick the players that currently play how the manager wants, in his set up and are the best in that specific position with that style and that formation (but may not be the best actual player) or do they just pick players because of who they play for? We know, for example, that with Glasners style of play and the premier league, how difficult it has been for some players to adapt, even where we’ve recruited for that role. We also know that if Wharton had been doing for Arsenal or Man City what he’s done for us, he’d be on the plane.

It was noticeable as you say that the referee didn't put up with any holding or pushing in the penalty area
Arsenal obviously knew this and didn't even try holding etc.
Which proves that they know they can get away with it in the Premier league.
I think that judging on this game and our game the other night,it proves that these foreign refs are a lot better than our refs the way they play the advantage rule and don't blow up for petty fouls.

Someone seems to keep the stats. They were quoting them in the commentary in Ireland.

Arsenal just won the Prem and reached final of Champions League.

Bayern won there league plus a domestic cup.

Both have gotten more compared to if they had still been at Palace the conference is a joke of a competition just look at the teams in it only a handful you could class as being worth while.

I actually called it last night when watching the penalties at home with my family.

When I saw Eze come forward, I said he was awful at Palace taking penalties. That is why Mateta takes them. Sure enough, missed.

Then when I saw Gabriel step up to take the 5th penalty, I said again bad idea to have a centre back take the 5th penalty. This could well go over the bar. Sure enough over.

Pity I didn't do the lottery on that form last night.

We all knew Eze would do that. Everyone except Arteta knew that. What a tool.
