welcome to Brennan Johnson

f*** that hes absolute dross no need to waste time on him acclimating. Hes already played in this league so not sure what the adjustment is. This is very similar to the Wissa situation at newcastle and they are prepared to ship him off.
Newcastle signed Wissa for a sum which could reach £55 Mill.
This season he has scored 5 goals from 29 appearances, his last goal being back in January.

Although still not great he at least wasn’t hiding as much. He is quick and did a couple of decent runs down the wings. Final ball not good enough but to the byline ok. I do think he has the skill but lacking so much confidence. He must also feel s*** as he knows what he is capable of and it just isn’t happening. I’m prepared to give him the benefit as look at JPM in the first season and others who came good. If by Xmas next year he still not performing then unload if we can.

Johnson, Larsen and Pino do not suit Glasner’s system.

The number 9 under Glasner has to be the focal point of the attack, link the play, battle with the opposition centre backs and finish the chances which may come his way.
Mateta ticks the boxes for these, Larsen only really demonstrates the ability to finish the occasional chance.

Johnson does not have the all round game to meet Glasner’s requirements.
He’s a one trick pony who requires the ball played in front of him for him to run onto so he can demonstrate his pace.
He will not beat a player through skill or power.

Pino is a tidy footballer who looks uncomfortable when confined to narrow areas where he is easy to contain.

The question for me is whether a new manager employing a different system of play will be able to unlock their talents and allow them to demonstrate what they can do.

Good post. It makes it all the more annoying that we seemingly spent £80m on Johnson and Larsen purely in a knee jerk reaction to Glasners rantings in January, and they were never going to fit into the way he sets the team up.

when OG was moaning that he wanted an early Jan signing we obviously panicked and bought Johnson.

However, as he plays the same position as Sarr who was only a few weeks from returning in the AFCON maybe Palace should have said use Esse and the retuning JRS for a few weeks - surely their contributions couldn't have been any worse.

Obviously yesterday was always going to be difficult and i didn't expect anything other than a 2 or 3 goal defeat and c 20% possession. Having said that Johnson again looked very underwhelming.

I noticed the commentator mentioned City's only home defeat was against Spurs in August and Johnson scored.

Here it is - a decent finish, but one you'd expect him to make. He was also coming in from the left.

If a new manager hasn’t been able to unlock anything from Johnson by Christmas then we should get shot in that window.

Personally I think he is so poor I’d have got shot at season end and bring JRS back but I suppose he probably deserves a go in a different system. He might prove us wrong but I won’t hold my breath.

When Johnson had his good season at Spurs, 24/25, Spurs played a 4-1-2-3 formation, or you can call it 4-3-3 with the middle midfielder playing deep, but he played all of his games on the right wing, we seem to have 3 expensive players for one position, with i think Sarr being the most flexible.

Sarr is good, however. Johnson seems unable to do anything currently. We should be asking what the hell is going on? I'd say the guy has problems.

Why we never bought a dedicated left sided attacking player is beyond me.

Instead of a natural left sided player we buy Sarr (no one will argue against his ability), Esse, Pino and Johnson with Guessand and Uche on loan. How does that make any sense.
