Brentford vs Crystal Palace match thread

We’ve been terrible all year at dealing with balls in the air. It’s one reason our record at conceding set piece goals is so poor. All our centre halves are good athletes but none of them looking great at organising the back line.

I think we don't have the determination and power we used to have. Been going on for a while.

It's certainly going to be difficult to replace him.
Why can't you see what everyone else can?

Everyone else? His thread is full of people slagging him off

Weak as piss on the ball
Weak as piss in the tackle, a bit of a bottler
No heading ability
Average speed
Not a goalscorer
Passes backwards and slows up attacks frequently

He's had a handful of decent games after 3/4 of his time here being absolutely dross. For our highest paid player I'm pretty confident we won't have trouble finding an upgrade. He's played ok today so far.

All those chances & now this. Clinton is giving Canvot some grief about not heading that ball away instead of trying to flick it, his words, not mine. He also said, it's not the 1st time.
He has a point. For all his improvement his decision making can let him down. Usually a couple of poor decisions a game which have been punished by goals a few times over the season. It’s the aspect of his game he need to improve the most

Regarding Wharton, most deep playmakers are there to orchestrate the play rather than to score, but if they are doing their primary job well then the team will be on top for periods, which in turn will result in them getting the chance to shoot from range once in a while. Sometimes that can be crucial, like when Rodri scored the winner for City in the CL final. Wharton's shooting has got better in recent times (as has his ability to create shooting chances for himself), but even if he never cracks it, it's not likely to hold him back. Busquets rarely scored, for example.

Either way, what a lovely, fluid, graceful player he can be. All nine stone of him. If we change to a 433/4231 system next year I would love to see Wharton flanked by athletic, pacey, powerful midfielders who go box to box and get on the end of crosses etc, old school. I think he would shine even more, then.

How this is to be paid for, I have not yet decided. I will come back to you after another beer.

That is not how modern football works and Wharton is not a deep lying play maker.

He is useless at defending.

Whartons shooting is poor it has not improved.

Busquet and Wharton are nothing a like.

I do think in a team with more quality around him he will get better but currently he is very overrated & if a big offer comes in for him we got to take it.

It's not the first time. Canvot has come on leaps and bounds in recent months but remains the most likely of the three centre backs to be at the centre of some sort of scruffy goal, or to have lost a runner, or made a questionable decision, etc.

The Conference League, with its slightly slower pace and decidedly lower standard of opposition has been a Godsend for him personally, and the bedrock of his improved form and confidence. Important to remember, however, that he is still very young, inexperienced, and has a long way to go before he could be first choice centre back in a back four.

Yes convince me other wise . Not all his passes are anywhere near a attacking midfielder , also his range is limited , don't mistake my opinion with my like for him , I want him to stay

Comedy gold.

The guy literally leads Europe in line breaking passes by a big margin, but that you can't see passing ability on him is f***ing hilarious. Poor b******. You only know "AM" and "DM".

He'll go to a top European club for a lot of money. I'd doubt you'll remember this discussion when he does. Ever heard of Busquets btw? s*** he was......

Well, lets hope you're not in charge of negotiating the sale fee for him when the time comes, then!

He has been an easy scapegoat. But it's pretty obvious he is instrumental to our play. It's only some idiotic palace 'fans' who can't see his worth. This is real life and not EA's FIFA.

I expect if peak Busquets played for us you'd be saying similar
