Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Same type of away day at Anfield
Away Stand seems 30% of non Palace or supporters who not wanting to sing.

I don’t expect us to be Aled Jones or Raye but we weren’t very vocal as at other grounds
Palace section was dreadful yesterday. So many scousers in there. How they all getting tickets?

Strange the fuss made in certain quarters about the Palace goal. Some teams are schooled in diving and feigning injury so the referee must surely take this into consideration, and if the ref was to stop the game for every incident then there wouldn't be much of a game in the first place.

The reality is we spunked £80m in the jan window.

Yes it's not a nice feeling... Especially as it feels like we spent ahead knowing the departure of Mateta is coming and therefore we won't have that much to spend again in the summer. Seeing these players arrive for that silly money but being way behind others in the squad in terms of quality is a huge worry as JSL and Johnson are the ones we're supposedly due to rely on next season.

JSL was getting relegated with wolves this summer and could have been purchased for probably 20m less. Johnson doesn't seem to fit any position and even with a formation change next season I struggle to see how he'll be ahead of others in the squad. His output is so dismal and he provides zero excitement. I'm at the stage with Johnson where's I'd personally rather watch Esse try and fail a dribble, Uche run around like a headless chicken or even give Drakes-Thomas minutes to help him progress.

Not sure I'd feel comfortable trusting Hobbs with another window if I'm honest...I await the links of us overspending or more Wolves 'stars'.

When was the last time an away team created so many chances at Anfield?
Isak`s goal involved a couple of fortunate rebounds before sitting up for him but did he really mean to hit it into the ground? Debateable.
Johnson I think is trying to hard, he needs something to happen for him maybe scoring with a heavily deflected shot. He scored 18 for Tottenham last season and there are several Tottenham vlogs questioning why they sold him, so maybe too many are writing him off early?

The ref was spot on. So was Munoz with a perfectly flighted shot into the empty net. Two minutes later, the keeper who 'couldn't get up' was running around like a march hare, punting the ball down the pitch. He totally faked it. And as for all those Liverpool defenders who 'stopped' all i can say is elementary, 'play to the whistle'. Very good decision. Scousers have become too entitled.

I personally felt that Palace were pretty good yesterday. They got a lucky first goal but we could have been ahead by one or two goals before that. As usual our finishing wasn’t great but it was good to see if moving the ball about with zip. I view this match as a training exercise for the Conference semifinal. Johnson just needs a goal off his backside and he will be away. Pino was bright when he came on. Borna Sosa was great especially with that brilliant cross, he is a great crosser of a ball, perhaps our best. Hope we play like this on Thursday. Canvot needs to just drop off his man a bit and we will be fine.

I think the question is, will the 100 million we spent on Johnson, Strand Larsen and Pino keep us in the Premier League next season. I think the answer is a resounding no.
That does not include the likely sale of Mateta, the loss of Kamada and other possible departures of quality players.
We have to find the money to improve the squad from somewhere, especially up front, where we are very wasteful.
I don't have much faith in our new director of football. He was mugged into buying Johnson and went back to his failing former club to buy a bang average forward for big money. Pino can't shoot to save his life and his free kicks are usually awful.

This trajectory cannot continue.

Think I disagree with that assessment other than final ball being poor and Sosa looking okay. Thought all over and especially midfield we were very lacklustre. Couldn’t understand how no changes were made to Wharton and Kamada after 60/70 minutes as they looked knackered. Our defending was also poor, especially covering our two attacking fullbacks for when they lost the ball upfield Liverpool then hit it down there lines putting us under pressure. Didn’t think we played as tight as we should have as well which meant our one goal and missed chances went against us :-(

Winner in Leipzig? 🤪

Palace have the last laugh?

U21s beat Liverpool this afternoon at Kirby after a penalty shoot-out in a tough PL play-off.

3-3 at FT, then our keeper Lee saved 3 scouse penalties 1-3.

🙂
