Brighton are not the enemy (nor are Millwall)

I was at that match...still amazed they gave Brighton the shed end ....being not long after the infamous FA Cup tie against Chelsea ( kung fu kick ) etc perhaps most Palace stayed away..on a wider note, without deep seated rivalry, even hatred, the middle classes and TV land will purify this sport and any sport into a day at Wimbledon tennis...it used to be working class game...see u all in Krakow

We've still got to win a few high-intensity games to get the chance to compete in next season's Europa League.
I admit, grudgingly, that The Weed are playing well, but they're just going to coast along to achieve the same.
It'll feel like The F.A. Cup triumph never happened!...until we compare trophy cabinets!
It also looks very much like Millwall will be in The Prem come August. It's theirs to lose. Historically, we rarely beat them.

A good pun, I expected a bum joke.

No show some love to them , I do feel that you have some dislikes about them , come lie down on my couch and relax and tell me why this dislike to our fellow south londoners is in your heart 😇
Errrmmmmm........the thuggery from 1970's is still fresh in one's mind, the way they used to treat black players back in the day and the fact they're just a useless bunch of neanderthal c****, pikeys and vagabonds.
And that's just the hotdog sellers!

It's those filthy unwashed c**** from New Cross for me.
To say I hate them is too strong a word but dislike immensely will do.
Yep same here , bunch of knuckle dragging Neanderthals , if they told me they had more than one brain cell between them I'd call them liars .

The vast majority of footballing rivalries are entirely performative. Almost nobody has a genuine personal stake these days. Even the argument that one set of fans will have to put up with the other crowing at work all week is a tired cliché. It's just something the marketing and media people use as part of their sales pitch now.

I don't hate Brighton or any other football team, I've always found the tribalism a bit weird tbh.

However Brighton is an absolute shithole!

I vividly remember the real animosity with Brighton in the 1970s and 80s. I lived in Brighton then and used to dread going to our games at the Goldstone, so much was hanging on it.
For younger generations who missed out on that, I can see why the rivalry feels a bit contrived, but I suspect it's survived because it expresses a very modern class antagonism. Brighton is the home of the educated, pampered, middle classes; SE25 is part of the 'left-behind' Britain, run-down and tatty. When the Brighton supporters gather in the Arthur Waite and sing "What a shithole, we want to go home," they really mean it! Brighton is privilege, Palace is 'alarm clock Britain.' They are Remain, we are Leave. They are Waitrose, we are Lidl.
