Orban has conceded. Magyar is on course for the 2/3rds majority needed to change the constitution and roll back the corruption that has plagued the country.

It’s a big deal for the EU and a bitter pill for Trump, Vance and Putin as Hungary will now distance itself from Russia and become an active EU member, rather than blocking initiatives.

It’s also a blow to populists everywhere. Including in the UK. With the spotlight about to reveal the effects of cronyism, and possible prosecutions, the folly of electing populists is going to be exposed to the public gaze.

This is great news. The pendulum has begun to swing. In the UK it should at least slow it somewhat.

The margin 2/3rds means the 'Magyars' can actually do something

And hopefully the E.U. will find the gonads to sequestrate Russian Roubles and kopeks stored in Belgium. A GOOD item of news. Orban will probably face a jail term.

The new guy is an old chum of Orban and shares most of his outlook, it is just a power grab by him, you hardly notice the difference.

He is left leaning, pro EU, which is hardluck for Trump nationalists and Putin🙂. If he was so close to Orban why would he bother to stand against him? Your post makes no sense.

It's worse than that I'm afraid. He's the latest EU puppet. They've been working on squeezing Hungary for years and now they have their reward. Expect the green goblin to get more of your tax payers money now instead of it going to sorely needed areas back at home.

In what world does Hungary need to defend itself against Russia?

They had good relations under Orban.

Now I expect their energy bill goes up if they decide to change policy......and if it doesn't, who is paying to see that it doesn't?

The same world as we all exist in! The real world.

Hungary is a member of NATO and NATO primarily exists to thwart the threat posed by Russia.

Orban’s position was untenable. He wanted his cake and to eat it. Yes, their energy bills will increase but so too will their self esteem and sense of purpose. They are proud people who aren’t Russian.

I'm sure than Hungary will look to reduce its dependency on Russian energy in the medium term, under a new pro EU PM, Hungary wont be the outlier and troublemaker when it comes to EU policies, eg in helping Ukraine, whether that be defend themselves and needing to borrow money or supporting them to join the EU.
Its very very good news.

Good news for who exactly? You think Hungary making itself a target is good news for Hungary? We will see what happens but I doubt it's going to be quite like you think.

Ukraine were going to borrow 92bn from the EU but Hungary stopped it. I am a supporter of Ukraine against Russia, thats all you need to know!

Yeah, what I'm getting is that you don't actually give a feck about what's best for Hungary, just your personal feelings about Russia.

People like you should be paying half my energy bill.

I'm pleased that you cleared that up,the E.U. tend to be rather subtle they don't use drones against innocent civilians and as far as I know they don't kidnap your children and brainwash them or cut undersea cables or take day trips to Salisbury in order to poison the inhabitants whilst always claiming "not me".
