What and who are the English?

i reckon another essential part of Englishness is city living. The rest of Europe (including Ireland, Wales & Scotland) were much more rural for much longer.
The mentality of a city dweller is very different to that of somebody who is from a tiny village or an isolated house in the countryside. London being the epitome of this.

And again, high population-density is something you share with your Dutch cousins. Along with being good at football, having an empire, innovative financial services, and micro-climate. London weather being more like the Dutch than the cloudy Atlantic - the absence of hilly terrain also being a commonality.

I don't know what it's like nowadays as it's nearly 40 years since I was excommunicated from the South but when I was living in Surrey / West Sussex no-one cared about what religion one was. I worked next to a chap for several years before it came up in conversation that he was Jewish. I moved to Newcastle in the mid eighties and everyone I met wanted to know what religion I was and most weren't happy with my reply that I was a devout atheist.

40 years ago it seemed that the further North one went the more importance was placed on your religion but I have no idea what it's like nowadays

as a Celt, i reserve the right to regard the English as a bunch of Germans. Which effectively yis are. Prior to WWI yis regarded Germany as your cousins....from whence we get the etymology of the word Germany. And yis regarded the French as 'other, them over there'.

Celt = dark hair, blue eyes, pale skin for the Goidelics, mediterreanan skin for the Brythonnic Welsh. The elderlies speak like they worked on a fisherman's tiny rowboat. Some commonality with French/Spanish language & culture.

English = Blonder, tanned, the elderlies speak like their grandparents were Dutch/Frisian......especially in Kent.
No such thing as Celts.

Genetically, I myself am just as much Scots/Irish as English but, born and raised here and very proud of these islands as a whole.

All of the ethnicities of these isles are under threat but it's the English who always get this attack about what they are by the left the most....more than Scots/Welsh/Irish do (though that's also happening).

Because you hear these attacks on the English so much, here is an historian on the right to answer this question.....and his answers would apply more broadly to the native ethnicities of all these isles.

A bit hard to say exactly what I am as it changes every time Ancestry revises your DNA profile. Mostly English/North West Europe. Devonish, Saxon, bit of Irish, Scot, Dutch last time round.

Fairly typical Englishman I guess.

Ethnicity matters.

Allegiance matters more.

A time is coming where that will be proven.

My ancestry is practically all English; London, and nowhere much north of Cambridge. One ggg-grandmother Irish (Protestant, so family probably from England originally).

You are English when everybody else hates you.

Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, the USA, the Greeks ( damn Lord Elgin ), the Australians, South Africa, Catholics, Hong Kong........ everybody

and a bit like us and Charlton.....the animosity travels in one direction and is often met by apathy or ignorance back the other way.

When I first went to what's now my local there was rugby on the telly and the Guvnor jovially asked me when I was going to start wearing a Scotland shirt. I said the day after he wore an England one and he as fine with that. The bloke next to me at the bar wasn't happy and we had the following exchange:
"I wouldnae wipe ma erse on an England shirt".
"Good. We don't want you to".
I was expecting to it to be on with this bloke but everyone laughed at him and he's never been back.
From my experience in London pubs Irishmen are more likely to be a bit wary of each other than be particularly concerned about a stray Englishman in their company.

I sun tan easily, hazel eyes, usually mistaken for a local when I go through customs on my holiday in the med, and apparently have Hispanic ancestry. The important thing is I'm British cultured have that allegiance, and most "racists" aren't bothered by skin, they're bothered by behaviour.

6% of the population are "the face of Britain" apparently. A face that has attacked our culture, demanded rights and greater privilege than everyone else, and generally causes a great deal of trouble and concern for the majority.

He described the UK as a "community of communities where Muslims are at the forefront of Britain's story", he thanked the community for their "brilliance and service to our country," specifically acknowledging professionals like doctors, teachers, actors, and journalists, stating it was his government's job to tell this "deeper story" of Muslim contribution to "drown out the voices that seek to divide us".

I've never ever been a Tory or remotely on the right wing, but this is a threat to English culture and northern European heritige. Reform just won my vote from undecided thanks to this clear path. I'll take any pain, I'll be ok with that.

One of the Labour MPs recently said "You can't out reform Reform" and that's why Labour have taken a swing to the lunatics lurching to the Greens.

i will agree with you, just after you prove there is no such thing as gender.

Regarding English identity , there is a curious paradox in the way you look at History of England. For many commentators, it seems to be.....

Romans are referred to as .....'them'
Vikings.......them
Normans.....them

Anglo-Saxons......Us, we,
Celtic-Britons 500 AD......both them and us.
Stonehenge Neolithic types........ ?

King Arthur, the Celt......one of Us.
Good King Billy...........one of us, British ( he wasn't )

King Alfred..........one of us
King Canute........one of them

and for the BBC.....post 1945 newcomers.......Us.

The guy on x went into the what it means to be English genetically in great detail.

However I suspect that in some ways genetics are not the main point of his video.

Many white English feel they have been put into second and third place in their own country. The raising of English flags is just a symptom of this.

I have traditionally in the past been very liberal and left leaning; but in recent years have come to see that English white people are being oppressed in a certain way. It's been done slowly and in stages; this way the English have accepted it.

Now we have idiots on the real far right like Steve Laws who is looking to take advantage of low intelligent and emotionally retarded white English people to create a civil war.

The communist teachers the guy spoke of are being paid by someone who wants this narrative pushed. They have infiltrated our colleges and universities to push this anti white agenda.

A start would be not falling for their lies.

The way I see Celts is that they are part of the mix of these isles.

I imagine the number of people who retain a high percentage of that ancestry is actually low but it's higher than the imprint the Normans left.

The invasions from Germanic and Scandinavian countries mixed in with the Romano-British/Celts over centuries.

The natives of these isles are mix of those genes.

I would like to know why the English have been specifically targeted. I appreciate to those on the left and that are liberal, this may seem utter nonsense. As I've previously said I was once in that camp. But it can no longer be denied by me that it is happening.

I have my own strong suspicions on why it's happening. One of those being that the
English identity is quintessential to so many things the people who own us, would love to destroy; so they can bring in their own world communist/fascist plan to kill all ideas of national sovereignty.

I think spending time thinking about English dna is a red herring in my opinion. If you live in this country and are white and sound English, you are in the club with regard to how you are viewed by others.

If that doesn't bring out my mate Wisbech, nothing will. Lol

you have just described me. I would prefer the Norman Tebbitt idea...."which cricket team do you support". Like Richard Dawkins, Charlize Theron, or Jean Jacques Burnel....you can pass for English even when you are vehemently not so.

Similarly, many people identify themselves as English even when its a bit of a strain on credulity. Surely the Ghurka's have earned the privilege through blood, sweat and tears ?
