Used to have great old f*rts on the telly, men in their 70s with quiet expertise on mahogany wardrobes, border collies or magnolias. Here is a list, you are welcome to comment or add to it:
Phil Drabble - One Man and his dog (with his back up Eric something)
Percy Thrower - gardener
Arthur Negus - antiques
Percy Edwards - animal impressions
Jack Hargreaves - gadgets and craftsmanship
Fred Dibnah - chimneys
Arthur Ellis - and his dipstick
Patrick Moore - astronomy (maybe a little too lively)
Dorothy Sleighthome - Farmhouse Kitchen
John Arnott - cricket and lawnmowers
A lot of you will go for 'don't cry for me Arthur Negus' but for me it is the inestimable Phil Drabble, with his flat cap and 'come by' - always thought that show could have gone global, had something sweet, eccentric and homely that makes you nostalgic for the England of Dad's Army and Lyons tea rooms.
