Why is our home form so bad?

This year we rank 16th in the home form table, the lowest we've been since 2018/19

Won 2
Drawn 6
Lost 5

On the flip side, we seem to continually outperform expectations when playing away from home.

The fan support at home games is great unlike at other stadiums like Spurs when the fans turn on the team the moment they go behind, so I'm genuinely curious as to what everyone thinks is the reason why we never seen to be able to get the W at Selhurst?

We are ranked 16th and we are 13th in the league, 3 points off 16th. So it’s just below where you’d expect it to be ain’t it?

The obvious answer is that teams sit back and we can’t break down a low block. Lanzo will undoubtedly point out that playing with a back five is a major factor in that.
The flip side is our relative success away from home where teams attack us and we can hit them on the break. Basically we’re a counterattacking side and that’s it.

Yes, a good manager would adapt his style and formation for the match, unfortunately we don't have a good manager, no other team in the premier league plays that style, for a reason.

Playing out from the back only allows the opposition to get into position to repel our attacks. We need to speed up the transition from defence to attack. This means that Hendo must look to throw the ball out quicker and boot it upfield more often. This continual passing the ball sideways between the backs is getting on my wick!

Look at the stats for the Burnley match. Palace had 572 passes of which 56.5% (324) were sideways and only 31% (177) were forward. Burnley had 316 passes but 41.5% (131) were sideways and 44.5% (141) were forward. It was this more positive attitude that helped them exploit our defence and get the goals.

It’s been going on for years, it amazes me when the so called pundits say selhurst is a hard place to come for other teams, maybe it is because the ground is rubbish, hard to get too, no hot water and turds left in the toilets, but as for coming away with the points it’s a doddle.

I always remember the year Covid struck, it was end of March and Jordan Ayew scored only the second goal up our end(Whitehorse) the last game before the world stopped, and the other was a penalty.

I’d like to say it’s the pressure of having to break teams down who sit back, but plenty of teams DON’T sit back, because they know we’re there for the taking, it is hard to explain. It’s just as well we’re okay away from home in general, because most seasons our home form is relegation form

As others have said it’s the tactics. Our strength is a quick, physical set of attacking players (or should be). We are at our best when we are more direct, win the ball high up or move quickly from back to front. See Sarr’s goal at Brighton as an example. So our genius manager has playing with 8 players behind the ball and passing it sideways.

Not really, as with most other teams I’d expect home form to be better than away but based on the way we play, the answer is probably relatively straightforward. We are a counterattacking team and if teams sit back against us as some teams do when they are at Selhurst it normally leads to a boring match with neither team able to break the other down hence few wins and more draws.

The amount of losses at home however are a worry. It is hardly fortress Selhurst Park anymore despite pundits always saying it’s a difficult place to come to.

it's simple.

OG's formation 3421 is better suited to away performances - essentially we can defend in a low block of 5 and 2 and counter attack.

At home the formation doesn't work as well, especially when a team sits back.

A 433 will have a No10 in the middle 3 so essentially you have 4 attacking players. We have 3 in our formation.

I've been saying this for the last 2 years!!

Wasn't there also one game where we won by an own goal by troy deeney? And had no shots on goal 🤣

Its really that simple, 433 at home, 3421 away, then we will win the league 🙄

Maybe the 8 teams behind us in the league should try it then.
Actually only 4 teams worse than us at home. Three of them have sacked the manager for being rubbish. So yes they recognise they need to try something different. I’m glad you agree

If you are happy being the fourth worst team at home (getting worse by the way) then ok. Carry, on, don’t change. See you in the Championship

Because there not good enough , all managers get found out , pep plays the same system week in week out reason because he had the quality players available all the time , but has struggled with losing rodri , one player and city struggled , how bad is he's managerial skills , and yes I still want glasner to go
