Hard to believe we’d sign Strand-Larsen and not sell Mateta in this window, but it would be a good bit of business if we did. Mateta needs competition, apparently has knee issues, and struggles to last 90 minutes. Both suit Glasner’s system and are to a large extent interchangeable. Given Nketiah is injured it makes sense. We can recoup £40 million on Mateta in the summer after he wins the World Cup ( just 🙃 joking) and let the new manager decide if he keeps Nketiah or not.
 
It baffles me how some will moan we have not signed anyone and others moan we are wasting money on players. Sadly we are not Man City and an obvious draw for players so have to either risk cheap money unearthing gems which is risky or spunk money on established sometimes average players others dont want and hope they improve like Guehi and Chabolah. Every other mid table club is trying the same thing, fighting over scraps (bobb, johnson, larsen, mateta, etc). If we could afford to pay 250k a week wages we would have bought Gallagher back and potentially upped Guiehis contract two years ago and kept him but we are what we are, until we arent. Just happy to stay in the epl racing pack and have the odd flirt with success. Boom and bust is too risky. We have slowly been getting better from 2013 until now with the odd blip. Even after the last 8 games gaining only 2 points we are only 9 points off Europe which is mental.

He is definitely not a £40 million player… £50 million is now being reported as agreed on SKY. The world has truly gone mad.

Yes ..... It isn't our money however we haven't got endless amounts to spend on players. Especially with FFP. If we blow 50M on JSL and he turns out to be a dud weve essentially lost 50M in what we can spend in the future. If we have 50M to spend theres 2 or 3 players better we could sign.

What happened to buying the cream of the championship?

Geuhi, Wharton, Eze, Olise,Esse where has that idea gone.
 
Overpriced…but if by some good fortune we end up winning the conference league and finishing mid table will any of us mind?
I reckon we may be banking on selling Wharton or Munez in the summer to balance the books, if necessary.

That is actually a very good way of looking at it. But still £50 big ones 😳😳😳
 
£50 million is a pretty penny but this is very good striker. Theres a reason why Newcastle wanted him in the summer. Hes is much better than mateta. However questions have to be asked about the sustainability of fees like this. We are not a club that can afford to spend north of 80 million in a transfer window.......
 
He's probably too busy opening up a Coutts bank account, but if I was advising Larsen I'd suggest he avoids these forums.
He's been condemned before he has even joined and I'm not sure why.
The fee? He didn't select that.
The fact he comes from lowly Wolves and hasn't played much this season?
Wolves have been terrible and are preparing for next season without Larsen so there's little point in selecting him.
I'm not an expert on him, but I like what I've seen and think he could do well.

If Im being honest this really feels like the beginning of the end. We are going away from the principles that made us such a good team and are now going down the path of teams such as West Ham just spunking millions of pounds with little resale value. Hopefully this is just a flash in the pan and we can get back to the identity of the club which is as you stated buying homegrown youngsters from the Championship
