If it's a new environment he needs then I cannot currently recommend Palace as a place to be.
 
Scored 14 in 35 on loan at Wolves last season, then signed for them in the summer due to an obligation - newcastle then poked their head in and unsettled him as don't think he ever wanted to walk into the burning building that is wolves.

Ignore his stats this season, 26 next week, 6 ft 4 and will score for us with a fresh attitude. If it means Mateta is going (hopefully to spurs) then I'm all up for it!

Risky business IMO, what if we can't offload Mateta (for a decent fee) in the summer?

They must see a decent striker in the Norwegian, which to be fair, he was before this season. I guess the question is, would we have scored more, had he been given the many sitters Mateta has missed?

Wolves are not doing the lad any good, rock bottom no service coming into him,his head then drops as it would. We can offer a new start and speedy players.

I do think there is a decent playing in there. Just nowhere near the 40/50m being touted.

Its also a bit of an anticlimax smashing your transfer record to sign a player who doesn't play for the worst team in the division.
 
The fee qouted is shocking according to my Wolverhampton supporting brother-in-law. I have copied his message below, which started with dozens of crying with laughter emoji's.

"Honestly m8 what the fcuk is going on with palace???? Thrown into that spending £30m on Nketiah as well and it will just over £100m on 2 distinctly average players and one player (Johnson) who has shown us very little so far.

I feel like too many football fans get caught up on the amount of money being spent - it's not our money so doesn't mean anything really. In reality, we sold Eze and Olise, soon to include Mateta for a combined £158m (assuming we sell Mateta for £40m) and replaced them with Johnson, Sarr, Pino, Uche (although a loan), Nketiah and potentially Strand Larsen for a combined £133m.

A few years ago, fans were crying out for depth in our squad - especially when Olise was having to play injured as his back up was Jeff Schlupp. When you consider that, it's not bad business by the club to be fair.
 
I think this could be a good signing for Palace. He is a big strong lad,good in the air good in the box, but only if the prize is correct.He is not worth 40 million though but like I say for a decent prize we could take him.
 
If we spend 75m on two players then we've completely gone against our transfer policy which although had been frustrating at times had been getting it's rewards.

My view is you don't make profit on a player (Mateta) only to then lump it all on another big lump! The whole purpose of making profit on players is surely to grow the quality in depth of the squad - not spend big on players when it's gonna be pretty unlikely you'll ever be seeing that money back.

I'd very much like Johnson and Strand-Larsen to prove me wrong and they go on to double their value but the situation concerns me a lot. As the flip side is we get stuck with two expensive duds, continue with a small squad and have no funds left to invest in other areas.
 
This will be a big mistake. £50m? He's a big, burly fella so we're suddenly going to be spraying in a lot of crosses for him to head goalwards?

Now we will have Strand Larsen, Johnson, Nketiah, Mateta (presumably he will go now) and theoretically Uche (he has always been theoretical) all vying to score no goals for us.

This club needs a top-notch sports psychologist, not another one-goal-a-season striker.
