Jørgen Strand Larsen

Wonder what it was?

The fact that they want 40m is laughable. Naturally its going to be influenced by Newcastles bid, but they had 100 odd mill of Isak money and needed a striker asap. Wolves were stupid not to take that offer.

If they paid 23m for him we shouldn't be going in for anything over 30. He's only really had 2 decent goal scoring seasons, and has been pretty poor this season.
I still can't get over that Isak bid. They sold that mediocre, bad attitude, butt ugly beanpole for more than we sold Eze and Olise combined. Incredible.

You go along as a fan thinking that the club knows what they are doing with regard to transfers, however if we buy this guy for close to £40m then I truly think they have lost the plot.

He probably fits Glasner’s system because he is similar to Mateta but Glasner goes in 4 months. What if this guy is not what the new manager wants? What if he is as bad as he has been this season and we are stuck with him on a long contract?

Along with Johnson this would be two very strange purchases at big money with our supposed very limited resources. I just don’t get it.

If I'm honest I have to agree with this. IF we sign this guy then we have spent £75m on Brennan Johnson and Strand Larsen which seems like a crazy amount of money, especially as from what we've seen of Johnson so far I'm genuinely baffled what the £35m has paid for.

Thrown into that spending £30m on Nketiah as well and it will just over £100m on 2 distinctly average players and one player (Johnson) who has shown us very little so far.

I never trust Palace when it comes to big money signings.

This is another example if it happens

Larsen is a very similar player to Mateta. That is not necessarily a good thing.

Surely we’d be better with either Johnson or Sarr at centre forward and Pino making up the front 3. We’d still have Drakes-Thomas and Uche as replacements. I just can’t see Sarr missing as many chances as Mateta.

I’d rather do that and get rid of Glasner, putting the money aside for the new manager.

You are Steve Parish and I claim my £5

Why the effing Jeff are we wasting our time and energy during the closing stages of the transfer window trying to sign this donkey for £40M ?!?

Is it just because Hobbs brought him to Wolves and thinks it’s a deal he can actually close?

I am beyond dismayed if we sign Larsen for that sort of money. Fulham just picked up Oscar Bobb for £27M. Fisnik Asllani potentially available for less than £30M. Emmanuel Emegha signed by Strasbourg for £12M and set to join their BlueCo partners Chelsea in the summer…and we’re sp*nking that sort of money or Jorgen Strand-Larsen 🥴

Please NO…I’d rather keep Mateta or play Benji.

I take a pragmatic view on this and don’t see Larsen joining unless Mateta is going.
If Mateta is going , and on the assumption that Glasner is staying for the rest of the season, we are going to need a centre forward to implement the system.
When I say a centre forward I don’t mean Nketiah or Uche.
I mean a focal point for the attack who can link the play , compete with opposition central defenders, get on the end of chances and help with both defensive and attacking set pieces.

I was quite impressed by what I saw of Larsen at Wolves last season.
He’s 6 foot four and unlike Mateta can actually head the ball.
He’s more mobile than Mateta and looks to be a decent finisher.
I could see him helping to bring the best out of Sarr and Johnson.
He’s got caught up in the terrible season that Wolves are encountering but that doesn’t mean he’s suddenly become a bad player.

There are still a lot of games to play this season, and much to play for, and I wouldn’t want to face these games with Mateta gone and no replacement.

I assume that our new manager has agreed to join, dots and i's etc, so you would hope he is a choice from him, Mateta will go, obviously, so i see it as a swap basically, i wonder when the deal is completed if Glasner, if he is still manager, will play him?

Sky Sports are now reporting we don't necessarily need to sell Mateta before we sign Strand Larsen!

Risky business IMO, what if we can't offload Mateta (for a decent fee) in the summer?

They must see a decent striker in the Norwegian, which to be fair, he was before this season. I guess the question is, would we have scored more, had he been given the many sitters Mateta has missed?

I'm choosing, from nothing but blind optimism, to be pleased about this.

He's young, he's a bit of a lump, and with some service may yet have some life in him. If we're getting players back, start improving, and start creating chances, he may well produce the goods.

Would be better than nowt, and surely has to be better than JPM at this stage. Wolves have been awful this season, his confidence is probably shot there, and may do well in a new environment with a new lease of life.
