Trump announces plan to hit UK, Denmark and other European countries with extra tariffs over Greenland

To summarize :

Trump growled.

The Globalists flinched......they are trying to put a spin on it that they have 'restrained him with some trinkets'

1-0 Trump
Really??
He threatened to takeover a sovereign state by any means….then he negotiates a deal that He could have got anyway and now has to back down on his threats- he pissed his pants.

Wall street saying TACO Trump always chickens out.

The thing is if Trump doesn't growl nothing would get done and he would be waiting ages for the EU leaders to stop posturing etc....

With threat of tarrifs or whatever it pushes everything through quickly. Some people may not like it. But it's effective.

And tanked the stock markets in the meantime.

Art of the deal 🤣

did you hear that on the BBC this morning ? Pure globalist spin. Previously they gave Trump a Stonewall NO.
Trump spoke the only language that keir & Macron really understand. And they blinked.

A sovereign State ? Greenland is not Denmark and not Danish. Gibraltar is more British than Greenland is Danish.
A mere robbed territorial outpost with some posturing and people flag-sticking in the ground. The Inuit locals are the real Greenland. And either they get full independence or they do a deal with the major Superpower of the region.
The EU cannot even defend Paris & Berlin. How can they defend Greenland ?

Holding a gun to your mates' heads to get what you want. The art of the deal.
Who loses ? If the deal is NATO gets a beefed up defence capability, Rutte is happy, Greenlanders get a cash payout. Only enemies of NATO and the UDS would be unhappy.

Gun to head? oh please

Remember Palmerston

Who’s invading Paris and Berlin ?

I'm not missing Biden but Trump is starting to get on my nerves. I've never really agreed with much of his foreign policy. It's harmful to us. We should be thinking about our countries as no. 1, like he is. Shame our governments can't think of us like that.
I'm at the stage where, if it's a poor deal, or the US bad mouths us, I'd say no personally. Shove it. And become far more self reliant. But it is but a pipe dream and the PM Hugh Grant scene from Love Actually.
Prime Minister Khan will probably stand up to Trump but that won't be helpful for anyone. God forbid, or Allah if you prefer.

Effective at what?

Not at building trust and partnerships!

At encouraging traditional allies to look elsewhere to build their future, for sure.

That process is already underway. Just look at the deal Carney has agreed with China for electric cars. Canada is showing real leadership in how to deal with Trump. Don’t antagonise. Just quietly act. Their people are following the lead. Reducing tourism, buying fewer US made goods. The American people are noticing too, and understand.

The ties won’t be permanently cut. Yet! There is every hope that this will all be reversed in 3 years time but if Trump decides to suspend the constitution, as some suggest he might try to, or Vance gets elected, then it will be.

Completely untrue.

Both Denmark and Greenland have been making it very clear that not only is Greenland ready for increased security provision and investments to exploit their natural resources they welcome it. All they have insisted on is that it is done the right way, with cooperation between allies.

The UK, France and other EU countries have simply backed up this position.

The only blinking has been by Trump. At the moment. Who knows what he might do next when he has no idea himself!

I think that could have been done without harming relationships and stocks.
Stocks all back to where they were pretty much, anyone who follows Trump's actions knows it's usually an all guns blazing opening then a sensible conclusion, the markets know this.

I don't know what relationships have actually been harmed, judging by the Board of Peace going on now there may be some realignments.

Trump is showing that almost everyone is dependent on the US in one way or another, which if true , then don't be so rude to the POTUS . If you are then expect a reaction.

As a country we have no permanent friends or permanent enemies, we have events that change the status quo.

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

If democracy is allowed to flow without interference in Europe (which makes your point ironic) then Europe won't have liberal leaders either.

Whatever happens pragmatism will probably be the rule if the right are in charge.

We have seen liberals interfering with democracy in Germany, France and Starmer banning elections and talking about stopping right wing voices from reaching their audiences.

Whether Trump looks to suspend democracy or Europe does is both up in the air.

i don't think i will even bother gracing that dumb question with an answer. However, i will give you a question instead.

Where is safer for an old Granny to walk ? ( assuming she will not slip on ice and break her hip nor become lunch for a Polar Bear ),.... suburban London/Paris/Berlin ? or the suburbs of the Greenland Capital, Nuuk ?

Effective in getting the deal done. 🤝
