Kees Smit, Paper Talk and Suggestion

I am advised that Kees Smit played for AZ Alkmaar yesterday in their 5-1 home defeat to league leaders PSV Eindhoven. The other player who impressed me on Thursday, Sven Mijnans, scored the AZ Alkmaar goal.
He has advisers now...

It also won't be long for his first international call up, that will add substantially to the transfer fee. I suspect from what I read in the Dutch press that around 15m may do it in January. The Dutch top teams, more like PSV will be interested also and he may prefer that as a destination anyway but would love to see him.

Feels like a not to dissimilar situation to Wharton, where we may need to pounce early, to get in before his stock rises further.

I'd 100% go for him in Jan.

I was very impressed with him last week and could see him working very well alongside wharton next season.

maybe there were talks between the two clubs last week or maybe we have no interest in him at all. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter!!

Ed Aarons mentions an ambitious move for Kees Smit. It ain't happening but, if for some absurd reason it does, it would be one of the most exciting signings I've ever seen from us.

Selhurst Park or the Bernabeu? Hmmm. Perhaps we'll let Susannah Reid try to convince him but it does unlikely and in any case this is the same journalist who was full of praise for Pino against Fulham.

Yep not sure he is Madrid level.

Newcastle have a pretty stacked CM, so may be difficult to get minutes there.

If he moved to us, IMO he'd be behind Kamada and Wharton but ahead of Lerma. But Kamada is out of contract in the summer.

This would be a superb signing for us and like when Wharton joined from Blackburn, Palace is the perfect club for him to develop and shine, with regular first team performances.

This lad stood out a mile when he played against us for AZ, this would be huge for us to get him, he’s very much in the De Bruyne mould.

Would be a big statement if we got him but I feel unless we have a huge budget or selling someone looks unlikely

Even looks a bit like him

It’s less unlikely then it sounds. The lad is very much a head screwed on down to earth character and will be well aware he will struggle for game time at likes of Madrid.

A good offer from us with a limited transfer fee may actually appeal more then many may think.
Also he has not been playing well of late and the big benefit of LL money is that it will be possible to outbid the Dutch topteams.
