Crystal Palace vs. Tottenham match thread

Tough game. We huffed and puffed but look like a team who've had most of their major threats removed. To score now we are relying on a set piece or stringing together a great move (which with the players missing is much harder to do) and as Glasner said we look to be getting nervous as soon as we approach the final 3rd.

I'd start Uche in the next game. He has a different style of player but I think we need a bit of chaos factor added to our attack as it's very predictable ATM and although Clyne is obviously doing his best he offers no attacking threat.

It'd be nice to have a rwb in the door at midnight new years but I won't hold my breath.

Think we're in for a few more rough games until we get new additions/players returning.

COYP (...and come on you new signings!)

Clyne offered nothing on the right going forward. Should have started Uche instead. Even Ayew, if he had stayed would have been a better choice than Clyne.
Clyne has never been a RWB, he was a very good RB and is still a good professional. The fact he offered nothing going forward was not his fault. Who should we have started there, Devenny? Possibly but not against Kudos. How about criticising the board for having not signed a Munoz deputy, if we don’t in early Jan it will be criminal

I don’t even think Clyne was the issue.

Having an ageing Clyne with Devenney in front of him in that formation was hardly promising.

That’d be concerning in the championship.

Agree all round there

Esse is nowhere near Eze league and never will be. Hes terrible and needs to be loaned out but as a club we tend to f*** loans up too!
You’ve literally not seen enough to make that judgement. None of us have. In Ollie we trust, of course. But the preceding post talked about magic - I was simply stating he is the most obvious deliverer of said magic.

Without 4 key players we go from top league contenders to bottom feeders. We needed more cover for certain positions and now we are paying the price.
Nketiah is a waste of space. Uche doesn't impress me and Mateta is totally out of form.

We will continue to lose until we have a greater attacking threat. Right now, we have nothing.

The only way games are won is by scoring goals. it is apparent that we cannot reliably score goals.
That is the issue that needs fixing if we want to progress in Europe, the FA Cup or PL. Without goals we will be going nowhere !

Well that was yet another disappointing game! We could still be playing now and not look like scoring, and why oh why have we lost the ability to defend set pieces?
Yes we missed Richards aerial strength but the ball was bouncing around and no one took control AGAIN!
Without Sarr running off JP I cannot see where a goal will come from in open play, and obviously we are missing everything that Munoz brings. I would also include Kamada in that (although for no good reason he is not my favourite player) which brings me to why I believe we are in this current slump.
As I see it there are two main factors.

Firstly as we all know, we simply didn’t bring in enough quality players in the summer, and the ones we did bring in haven’t particularly hit the ground running. Pino maybe being the exception although I personally think he flatters to deceive a lot of the time.

The second problem as I see it, is that OG is incapable of changing his system to fit the players that are currently fit and available. It is very clear that we do not have a ready made replacement for Munoz within the squad, and we do not have a ready made replacement for Sarr (especially his pace) so to keep playing with the 3 at the back and the wingbacks is asking for trouble.
We are playing players out of their best position just to stick with the formation. I am sure we could all come up with various ways to play with what players we have available.
Personally I would like to see us with JP/Uche upfront alongside Nketiah with Wharton in a free roll behind them, and then 3 holding midfielders of any choice and a back 4. Maybe it’s a crap formation but then again I don’t get paid £4.5m a year to manage the team.
The point is as great as OG is, he has also got to take responsibility. Any great manager will overcome and adapt, and we are not currently doing this.

THREE good chances from headers, not one hit the target.
Defensively we looked wanting on occasions and we really missed the players who were unavailable.
Mateta has regressed into the player he was when he arrived at our club. Only 1 goal in 'Open Play' in his last 15 games and he is our main striker.
Apropos our Home form we have only won 4 of our 15 games this season (All competitions) and we have only won 2 of our 9 PL games at home this season.
2025 is viewed as a historic year for our club but some of the stats this season do not make pleasant reading.
I have had a fit of the vapours on account of today's defeat.
😡

I knew it would have that last line, up to that point I wouldn’t have known it was willo 😁

This is a frustrating time as we all know with the schedule we faced we needed to invest more. That said it was a hugely inflated summer market with alot of very expensive players so far not justifying their fees. Agents ruled supreme, boosting prices and lengthening timeframes. Players also have to want to come to Palace whilst their agent is telling them to hang on for a better deal. So we decided to stick, rather than twist, not what we wanted but understandable. Given the massive summer market splurge we will be hoping for a bit of sense to return in the January market. I’m not holding my breath.

His name is Romain Esse and he currently spends his career sitting on our bench.

Just imagine if Eze was given the same treatment early on in his palace days when he made bad decisions…
Its extremely disappointing how such a talented player is not allowed to work through his mistakes. He is instead taken off embarrassingly at half time just absolutely destroying his confidence. Its really poor man managment. I really think if we have a change of manager and the manager believes in Romain he could be an absolute star for us

An attacking unit of Clyne, Mitchell, Devenny, Pino and Mateta just doesn’t carry enough threat at this level - not one of them can beat a man and only Pino and Mateta are actual attackers/forwards.

I accept that options are heavily limited as a result of our poor squad building, but we will struggle to score any goals at this level with that front line - zero creativity.

We are creating chances, it is our conversion rate that is woeful.
Yesterday we had 3 good opportunities to score with headers but on each occasion the efforts were off target.
No PL side has underperformed their expected goals (xG) tally by more than our team in the PL this season, scoring just 21 times despite an xG value of 29.4.
