The original rumour was that he was a Brighton fan as he comes from Middleton on Sea 24 miles away. It is not known who he really supports. His second ever EPL match was at Selhurst in the 2-1 win over Leicester, Roy Hodgeson’s first match on his return. There were a number of messages on this site on this site praising his handling and to date there has been very little controversy surrounding his refereeing. This is in contrast to Sam Barrott who was promoted by Mike Riley at the same time and gets twice as many appointments. Hopefully we will enjoy his return to the Palace.

The VAR assessor is worrying though given the backgrounds of our players. Paul Howard has no experience of senior matches having refereed mainly U21 matches. He was sanctioned in July 2022 for improper language at a PGMOL Conference with express or implied comments about ethnicity and racial background. However he is “assisted” by Sian Massey-Ellis who is an experienced assessor and referee in her own right.

Prior to their win against Leeds on Saturday, Brighton had not had a clean sheet since May in the Premier League - against Wolves.

I don't like making predictions on games like this as I'm always wrong but perhaps these facts can do the talking.
