Munoz

It looks like that old journalistic ploy, of asking if he has ambitions. No player ,or very few are going to say positively ,NO.

If Barcelona, came in for him he would go, not many wouldn’t. But he says no one has approached him and he is very happy at Palace. In other words yes he has ambitions. This sort of thing makes click bait and they will regurgitate it until they get a similar quote out of some other wanna be. He is good we all know that so it’s not impossible his time will come, but this doesn’t say it has yet.

As excellent as he's been, I also think we're a great fit for him - I don't know if he'd replicate quite the same standards outside of Glasner's system.

But at his age, if a big club comes knocking, I couldn't blame him for wanting to go and test himself.

Agree with this. Would any of Palaces squad be any different? It’s almost a requirement of the modern pro to want to play for the biggest clubs.
Munoz doesn’t speak English, so whatever he said is a translation, making it ever easier to spin it in what ever way you want.

100% agree. Very happy at Palace but if Barcelona (or equivalent) came calling i'd be keen on exploring a move.

Could surely apply to every Palace player, or 99% of Prem players.

Not far from the January window with Barcelona supposedly preparing a £26 million bid for Munoz.
He only recently signed a new contract for Palace, but there's always the possibility of the dreaded release clause.
I doubt the club would stand in his way in any event if an acceptable offer came in.

One thing for sure, if he was to depart we'd have to change our attacking approach as he's a key component and we don't have a similar player to perform the same role.

Putting my Steve Parish tin foil hat on for a minute......
Munoz is 30 this coming May.
26 million for a 30 year old is very good business. Especially when we payed so little. 🙊

Financially it makes sense, and the way he plays would be harder to sustain after 30, but he'd be very difficult to replace and with Guehi going as well (Mateta is also a possibility to leave but probably not to Barcelona and Wharton will go sooner rather than later) we'd need a rebuild.
There's also the uncertainty around Ollie Glasner's position and if he does go his replacement will probably want to play differently anyway - clickbait mentioned Brendan Rodgers today.

I do wonder how Munoz would do at a big club. For us he's amazing because generally we counter teams and he is an unbelievable athlete capable of running up and down the pitch at speed, seemingly never breaking a sweat. His end product is somethimes hit and miss though, which for a team like Barcelona is probably more important than the ability to run non-stop for 95 minutes. In games where we've dominated the ball he's often been far less effective in an attacking sense. I reckon he's got at least another three years at our level and given his importance to the team it would seem foolhardy to sell. It is also worth noting that apparently Barcelona still owe Leeds about £30 million for Raphinha.

Clickbait. Barcelona are skint, if they do make an offer it will be on the never never.
Google reckons Barcelona owe £138 m in transfer fees, mostly from 2022.
Not that long ago it would've seemed, let's say, unlikely they'd ever be mentioned in connection with any of our players or that CPFC would be more financially viable.

All clubs owe transfer fees - if the fee is scheduled to be paid over say 5 years, then it is not a problem.
When a club fails to pay another club as per the agreed schedule then a transfer embargo is usually put in place.
Football has quite strong punishment for clubs that fail to pay other clubs as else the pyramid would soon collapse. For example any club in administration must pay all football debts at 100%, without a discount.

If Munoz was to leave (and he is 29) then IMHO Gusto at Chelsea would be an obvious replacement. Much younger and very forward thinking. Unfortunately i suspect Chelsea will want top dollar despite him not being a regular (they bought him for c£30m).
