International Call Ups

It's mad. I'd build the team around Wharton. Have never been Mitchell's biggest fan but he clearly deserves an opportunity on this occasion.

100% agree.

The best England midfield HAS to Wharton, Rice, and Bellingham. Surely.

And yeah TM more than deserves a chance.

Selfishly I'm happy about it though. Will be good for the boys to have some downtime. Though with all out Internationals, there wont be many first team players to train with

Well he has left Bellingham out as well

Wharton had some bad timing with injuries before England games. On this occasion I think it is understandable as Elliot Anderson did well. And with so many games coming up it's not bad timing to get a rest

But agree with your best England midfield

Anderson is preferred over Wharton, but I wonder for how long.

But Mitchell being constantly overlooked is baffling.
Mitchell always feels like quite an "off radar" player to me, something usually reserved for work horse central midfielders like James McArthur or Michael Hughes. The kind of player that neutral fans barely know exist, but fans of the club know are pivotal.

A shame though, maybe he needs pink boots, a driving ban or a mental haircut to get noticed.

If I was picking a four man midfield I don't know if I'd start Surely. I don't think he likes being called that either.

I might be the only one, but I'm delighted Wharton and Mitchell haven't been called up.
We have more than enough games this season as it is and I'd like them to concentrate their efforts on a proper team in Palace.
I'm fed up with these international breaks every few weeks which often contain meaningless games.
I also don't want Guehi playing ninety minutes in both. Against teams like Wales we should be trying players. It's a friendly and they're not that good. Jonny Williams probably still plays for them. What England should be doing is finding a left back and a proper back up striker. But let's watch some thirty year olds lumber around as Tuchel trusts them. Dean Henderson should start but not the other one. Why recall Loftus Cheek - there are aren't enough midfielders in England? Feels like there are loads.

Anderson did look good in the last internationals, so I get him starting over Wharton, I just can’t believe a player like Loftus-Cheek gets in after 7 years since his last cap and 2 years hardly playing for Milan

He is playing this season. He's doing ok - doesn't always start. He's between career ending injuries at present. May as well use him for that couple of months window.

It’s a good point, keep them fresh for us, I’m just disappointed for Wharton and Mitchell who clearly deserve to be picked. It grates when you’ve got old has beens getting in the squad. Plus someone like Rashford who’s had so many chances to impress in the past

Tuchel seems to be thinking because we played well in the last game (5-0 v Serbia) the squad is moulding some team spirit . This is his squad and its up to those not in it to force his hand .

Im not entirely against that reasoning but when you look at the players not in it that could well make the world cup squad given an upturn in form /injury free run I think he may be making promises to those in his latest squad that he wont be able to keep .
Wharton ,Bellingham , Grealish and Foden are all likely to give Tuchel a headache in the spring .

The team looked tired after a late night Thursday/early morning Friday return from Poland then travelling to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon. So far only Guehi, Henderson, Mateta, Devenny and Sarr are on World Cup duty and required to attend if called up. Kamada, Lerma, Munoz and Richards can be refused permission to travel as their National Teams only have friendlies. Pino has not made the Spanish squad this time.

Of the subs Cardines and Sosa are possible call ups for World Cup duty but I have not seen anything yet. Uche has not been called up for Nigeria. It could mean that the bulk of the squad get a well earned break.

Agree.
A team is made up of the right 11 players - not necessarily the best 11 players. It's Tuchels squad, and he'll live and die by it. I've got more respect for him for not picking a team based on public pressure. Sure I disagree with his choices - but we've said many times that managers shouldn't shoehorn the best 11 onto the pitch.
I do find it surprising that now Whartons available he's not 'having a look', this far away from a tournament, but perhaps there's other things going on.

Anderson will be hard to dislodge if he continues to perform this well at international level.

Mateta gets his first France call-up. Hendo and Guehi are in the England squad. However, there is no Wharton, despite Gibbs-White and Rogers being in bang average form. There is also no Mitchell despite Livramento being injured and Lewis-Skelly not starting a single PL game this season.

The fewer Palace players in the shop window during internationals and getting injured the more I like life let the "big time charlie" clubs supply the international squads. My favourite phrase is Wharton who?
