Oh yeah the police follow the guidance all the time. It's why shoplifters and phone muggers are so scared of getting caught. It's why when you are burgled the police blue light it to your home.

It's why a gay couple I am friends with were soooo reassured when 2 armed men burst into their home (I would call it a mansion) in Bromley and robbed them at gun point. The police weren't interested.

Yeah we all know about police guidance, please call us for a crime number for insurance purposes and we'll err well that it.
 
It really will not be long before they bring legislation in so that we have to upload our ID to be able to access social media or to log in to sites like this one we are so fond of.

Ed Davey has found a vote winner! It’s well over time that this was done so let’s hope Parliament is brave enough to do it, face down the ire that it would create in the MAGA world and start to allow the teeth given to Ofcom by the online safety act to bite.

We must get the online space regulated and not allow it to continue like a 21st century version of the Wild West:-

I don’t have any mates who are truly left so that’s impossible.

I also make no differentiation at all between people who break the law because of their politics and have absolute confidence that the police, Ofcom or any other authority don’t either.

It seems to me that the right increasingly confuse their absolute right to hold opinions about law they believe are unjust with their obligation to abide by those laws.

Glad you like it but I am not cheering for ID checks just warning they are coming. Privacy is still worth fighting for.

I am all for ID checks at our borders however 🙄

Apparently Starmer is going to announce this at the party conference.

I don't have a moral objection to Id cards but it will be costly to the taxpayer so I will need someone to convince me that the the benefits outweigh the costs.

I don't see how this will stop boatloads of illegals. I can see the benefit of convenience for the public being able to use one recognised id for lots of interactions but are we giving up our liberty?

It only works if you force people to carry id and jail them if they don't. If the police stop me I can prove my id now very quickly as will all honest citizens. Criminals and illegals don't carry id or have fake ones so it makes no difference to the police unless they can arrest them for not carrying an id which isn't going to happen.

It just seems another infringement on our rights and I fully expect they will link our social media accounts to it as soon as they can get away with it.

And have long before there are fake national id cards circulating. Do you trust the government to be smart enough not to be fooled by fake birth certificates and other documentation?

I remember having to have fake documentation to sit in a coffee shop, restaurant, pub, go to the gym, cinema and even fly. It was crazy times. It wasn't even Nazi Germany it was 3 years ago! 🤣

There are ways today that can eliminate the scourge of fake ids. The use of NFC, the kind of chip that makes our cards and phones contactless, will do that. It won’t completely eliminate misuse but it will stop a great deal of it. It won’t stop the boats, but it will put a big barrier in front of illegal working.

The benefits outweigh the disadvantages, in my opinion. It may irritate a few but most will be pleased.

You were the one who proudly proclaimed you had faked a Covid vaccination card?

Very responsible of you! That wasn’t simply an ID being faked. It was a deliberately ignorant and dishonest act that threatened others.

As I have said elsewhere, laws are to control the law abiding, not the criminal fraternity. We will just be corralled into a tighter means of control whilst the criminals ignore whatever we are subject to.

What nonsense. The law abiding have no fear of the laws. They are abiding by them. Criminals who ignore them do fear them, because when they get caught they get punished.

Your solution presumably would be to have no laws. In that way there would be no criminals so no one needs to worry and those with the biggest sticks will prosper.

They were certainly crazy times made worse by the crazies who refused to participate in the national effort to mitigate the effect of a new disease, whose outcomes were unknown and which had no known cure at the time.

Even the self appointed leader of the pack here, who is normally at the pinnacle of absurd positions, abided by the rules. Reluctantly maybe but they still followed the legal requirements.
